Custom Intake
Custom Intake
After reading numerous reviews and threads about intakes I have decided to change out my exisiting intake to a custom one. First of all I am thinking of doing something similar to the AEM v2 design. If anyone has the specs on the v2 please post them. I plan to go with 2.5" off the throttle body as the v2 does then go to the 3" as the seconday. Instead of using a single filter im thinking of a dual airfilter set up. I would use a 3" exhaust Y pipe at the end with 2 filters attatched. My reasoning for this i believe that the the more surface the air has to come the more horespower that can be made by the intake.
If anyone has an input or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
When doing this this I will post pics and results.

a single filter is the best setup for the d17 as it only sucks in enough air to make a second intake filter useless. What you could do is concentrate on making that intake air temperature colder, that would be more beneficial.
someone please don't close this but since you're new here sohc1lx, try the search button on the forum, it'll answer a ton of questions even if most of the threads have no working pictures, etc.

Your engine only needs so much air, two filters sounds like overkill. I like the idea of saving weight over adding horsepower, sounds like you will be adding a little extra weight with all that plumbing. Remember when in doubt, keep it simple.

well, if u do this, your car will feel like a riding lawn mower, 2 filters would kill your low end, that's why normal cai's suck for our d17s, they have too big of a pipe to supply the amount of compression (although very very slight) for the engine to get enough air into the engine. 2 filters? yea, you will hate it.

honestly your cheap bomz intake will provide about the same gains as your typical "name brand" intake. neither of them will prove to be satisfying to your performance needs.
cai's on d17s kill your low end by not providing enough pressure to the intake as the stock one does (that's why the stock inlet is smaller), but the cai does provide more airflow at higher rpms, so you get an ever-so-slight hp increase in the higher end.
