how do you know if your shocks go back

here is my story ... i got hit from behind ... but my shocks were okay but then i took my car to go get repaired in the shop and when i got it back i notice my exhaust skidding on the ground and right rear quarter panel (which was repaired) hitting the tires each time i go over a bump ... So i called the body shop and he said he dunno but he will take a look at it the next day ... rather than me drive back to him, i decided to just raise the back instead, at first everything was okay but then all of a sudden i notice that no matter how much i raised it ... it would go back to it same height of like an inch from the quarter panel to the top of the tire ... is this a sign of my right rear shocks gone bad and the other (left) side of the rear shock is fine ... i have tien basic shocks by the way so if anyone can help ... thanks

If you got hit there, you should be checking for control arm damage, frame misalignment etc......
especially if it was "fixed"
Something sounds fishy.... the corner shouldn't be collapsed like that, the spring holds the car up, not the shock.

Well the car was crashed. All bets are off. It can be a million things. It would help to know what was done, but ultimately the only way you're going to get it figured out is with a printout of the wheel alignment specs and the hope that the shop put the car on a frame rack and checked everything out.
If it was fine until the shop got it, then start with the shop.
