I know it's stupid, but i want to know........
Sorry, these are stupid question, but i just want to make sure.........
I have a 7thgenLXcoupe Manual, the OEM wheel and for my car are 185/70R14
and I've change it to 205/40R17, with Yokohaha AVID H4........
Because of the thinner side wall of my tires, i'm already notice significant drop down on the ride's comfort.
(well, handling improved alot.......... god... I almost got killed on the OEM Firestone..........)
The drop-down on the ride's comfort lead me to think about my suspension....
will this mod cuz more stress to my suspension?
and is it actually suitabale for me to have that size of wheel?
and the second thing is..........I want to lower car......
I think 1.5in is the most i would go, will that be alright if i only changing the springs, but not the shocks?
will that help the cornering of my ride? cuz i only care about performance.
What other (not that expensive) mod can i do to help cornering?
I know I'm stupid, but please help me.......

Strut bars are a cheap way to reduce body roll when turning. Got my front strut tower for 30-something on ebay and it has held up well. Also, when dropping the car, get new shocks. Everyone always complains that they wrecked the stock ones after they lower it. Koni yellows are always getting good reviews but they're $500+
any other questions, try a search

Supposidly, you should be able to go around 20,000 miles on the stock struts after lowering your car, but I guess
that would vary from car to car. The guy at the performance shop I go to, said that he could put on some GoldLines and drop my car about 1.5"
and that I could roll around without having to change the stock struts for about 40,000 miles. So I will hold him to that when I get my car lowered...
if I blow the struts, he's gonna put some Konis on there damn cheap.
The best handling you could get would be 17" wheels, a good set of springs (and lower IS NOT BETTER) and get some adjustable
struts....like Koni's, or Tokico's. Then get a front strut brace, rear sway bar and a rear tie down bar. After all that, if you wish....replace
the rubber bushings with Polyurethane bushings. You'll be all set after that, for the street or the track !!

for sturt bar, u have to watch out...cause if u getting any type of aftermarket intake, u can only use NEUSPEED or DC SPORTS sturt bar, the ones they sell on ebay will only fit stock intake system

When you put on 17" your raising your car a bit because of the wheel size, then once you lower it put you just below stock height..with aftermarket springs you reduce roll in your car, but if you get some stabalizer bars (sway and roll bars) then you reduce a lot of roll in the body, thus less stress is put on the shocks and springs...with that done your shocks will stand a better chance then just lowering and leaving your ride like that.

ModNewbie, when you put on 17" rims, you're not changing the suspension at all. how could you possibly make the ride higher or lower by changing tires?? especially with 205/40-R17s, you're going to be actually LOWERING your ride because the new tire diameter is smaller than stock. if anything, it just LOOKS like you raised it, it's just an illusion. then lowering your ride an inch or two will make your ride nowhere near stock height. get your info straight please if you're going to answer a question.

is that the only difference between them, or is there any other reason to pay 5x the price of the generic ones for a neuspeed or dc sports bar?
im not going to put an intake on my car and i want a strut bar, but i dont want to pay $150+ if i can pay $30 for basically the same thing

One thing to be aware of when going to bigger wheels that use tires with small side wall is that you loose a lot of protection for your rim. Be very careful of hitting pot holes at speed. They will dent those pretty rims in a hurry.
As far as lowering, you have already noticed the sacrifice in ride comfort, if you lower the car, you will notice a big difference again. I would go with some sportline springs from eibach that will lower ya about an inch. Also, lowering more than an inch and you are going to run into alignment problems and thus, tire wear problems. I have been there done that, the moral is just make sure you check into the downsides of your mods.
Lastly, the stock shocks will last a few weeks on a lowered car dependent upon how low you go. The shop guys just tell you they will last so you will give them the money to lower the car. You really need to upgrade to some better shocks if you decide to do it. You will be very suprised how much shocks can do for your handling. However, wheel and tire selection make the biggest most noticeable difference.

Another thing that you have to watch for when changing your rims is their weight
Putting on heavy rims will significantly decrease your ride quality, because more vibration will be translated to the cabin instead of being absorbed by your shock/spring
Heavy rims will also decrease suspension response, and thus reducing the car's performance during turning (especially during quick maneuvers)
hope this helps
