Buying items from US?
I'm a noob to shipping stuff from US, what company is the best for this? How do u guys buy items from US? I wanna order some Koni yellow shocks from truehonda, but I'm affraid I'm gonna end up having to pay a lot of money for customs, brokerage, taxes... . What is the most affordable way to get stuff shipped to canada?
I've heard that there is a place in Buffalo that u can get the items shipped to and then go pick them up, anyone know something about this?
thanks

tell Ed from Truehonda to ship with USPS, NOT FEDEX or UPS. it will be cheaper. it will take 10-14 days to get to you. you'll get a letter in the mail from Canada Post stating that they have your package and you owe them $XX.XX on taxes (only taxes, no brokerage). i find that USPS is quicker and cheaper than regular FedEx or UPS shipping.

Best bet is to use the USPS and put a low value on the customs ticket and make sure this in total will be cheaper than Canada.

there is a place that will let you ship to them for free
they will call you when your item arrives and you pay $5 when you pick it up.
FEDEX ground leaves packages at your door without demanding customs up fornt. They dont persue you for small customs matters.
Just avoid UPS, USPS is the cheapest but I like Fedex ground, reliable and affordable
If you can convince the seller to attach a little note for customs that says this
"THIS PACKAGE IS ENTERING CANADA AS A WARRENTY REPLACMENT"
"THE PACKAGE WAS SENT TO THE USA FOR WARRENTY SERVICE AND HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRENTY"
then it will be nice and tax free, assuming the above is true

shipping to canada sucks but I use ups and its not really as bad. you just have to say what you're shipping is new and made in usa. Then say its a gift and $5 value.

My advice is just tell the sender to use USPS. UPS is total BS. Not only do they charge you the customs fees, but they also charge an addition BS brokerage charge.
With USPS the brokerage charge is included with the shipping price.

I ship things back and forth between the states and canada constantly...40 items this month alone!
What you want to do is ship using USPS and if the sender agrees ship it with a value of anything under $20.00
Now if the value is marked $20.00 then that is all you are insured for say anything happens on route.
But chances are slim...
Now USPS does charge a small handling fee. They don't only charge the taxes but theirs is very very minimal compared to UPS Or FedEx...
So this is your best bet to go when shipping something over...
