turbo 01' ex questions!
turbo 01' ex questions!
good evening folks. Well, im going to be server soon (took 9 months), and im looking to start saving for a turbo for x-mas. My question is, is it worth it? I have set up a couple of questions based around certain criteria so if u guys could help me in any or all of the categories i'd greatly appreciate it!!
Firstly, as of right now i own a 2001 ssm coupe with aem cai, dc 4-2-1 header, and a dc tcs catback system. It gets around 33 mpg, and i was wondering what my mpg would drop to if a turbo was put on it.
secondly, how much of a power increase will there be at around 6-7psi?
Thirdly, is the speed boost worth the 1500+ bucks?
-what is your 0-60?
-what is your quarter mile?
and finally, what class of cars can you compete with, perhaps mustang, 350z's and s2ks?
all types of input would be awesome!

i think it is worth the $1500. with a proper tune you can be looking at maybe 160whp on a 5-speed with proper tunning. your gas milage shouldn't decrease to much unless you constantly step on it hard. not s2k or 350z category. but older stock 5.0 mustangs is a definate, same with 3rd gen f-bodies.

Trust me, you will have more invested in it than you think.
I have been boosted for almost 2 years and my car is fun to drive. Do i think it was worth it......for the cost, no. You are better off swapping or modding a different car.......mainly dohc.
I drive a turbo 04 and I think it's fun, but it is DEFINITELY lot of money. I'm currently boosting 10psi, but I don't think it's fast enough. I'm going to be swapping the pistons, rods, valves, and getting a Port/Polish done soon. Once you're in, you're in and not going to be able to stop. A swap would have been better for me, but I didn't know that at the time.

Boost is an addiction and a black hole that sucks your money dry. Prepare to spend atleast $4K no matter what set-up you choose. Turbo will nickle and dime you to death.

Why do you think I'm not boosted anymore?
The temptation is always there to slap a new turbo system on my car but I know that if I were to do something like that, I would be even worse off than I am now. I had nothing but problems like things breaking, new equipment to make the stock equipment on my car a little more rigid and durable to handle the boost. Be prepared to just shovel money into your local shop or parts store cause, like mentioned above, boost is addicting and once you think you've had enough, there is always something inside of you that tells you that you need more. In order to achieve higher levels of boost, you've gotta build...
I'm supprised that there isn't a rehab for people trying to quit the habit... There should've been a place like that when I removed my turbo kit cause I was going through some major withdrawls.....
