Mysterious Disappearing Gas

After 200 miles my "fill your tank" light turns on. What sensor is responsible for this and how much is it to replace? I looked at a diy but couldn't narrow down the specific part.

Any help is appreciated since I worry that my tank is always empty (even if I am logging the miles).

Well have you even checked to see if you have a small bit of fluid left after 200 miles? This doesnt necessarily mean you have a bad sending unit. Or better yet, how many gallons do you get when you fill it up then? If you only get like a few gallons, then the sender is probably faulty. But if you are getting a full tank, then you are either running nice and rich or you have a leak somewhere.

or someone is jacking your gas at night. highly unlikely with our cars, but possible.

What???? I have never heard of a electric fuel pump having a float. Now carburators have floats.

lol, I get a full tank and under hard driving get 33mpg highway so I had thought that maybe the fuel pump or whichever sensor was crapped out.

The fuel gauge sending unit has a float that is connected to an indicator that when the fuel tank is full the float goes up and sends a full signal.
When the tank is close to empty, the float on the sending unit is down, sending a almost empty signal to the ECU/ multiplex system therefore the empty light comes on on the control panel.

If the float is getting stuck or is broke getting gas inside it may go down prematurely sending an fill gas signal to the control panel.

I was getting a 3/4 of gas signal on my car and I ran out of gas one day.
I thought I was getting excelent gas milage
I changed the sending unit and it fixed the problem.

Refered to page 11-141 of the Honda service manual.
