Man I'm frustated at my Vic
Man I'm frustated at my Vic
I went out shopping again today b/c my vic just seems to bounce constantly... Everyone one I see of the road does it too. WHY !?!?
I love the interior, love the smooth engine and tranny. Everything is in the right place. It just feels good sitting in it.
BUT this stupid suspension TICKS me off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not a sports car; so why so stiff a suspension and why does it have to bounce all the time. Even the smoothest highway roads give me that up and down ride constantly. I've driven a few other 05 civics and they all do it.
Is there ANYTHING i can do... or do I have to go for a Mazda3 or something else. I really like my civic except for this main issue I have. Don't want to sell but - MAN am I FRUSTRATED.

i have about 3000 miles on it... the rear of my car is so stiff I can barely push it down... but I think that is typical. Wish it had more give at least at the top of the springs. I live in ohio where the road are cracked and heaved a little here and there. But it does it on the new highways too... I can't see the raises in the road but I can sure feel them

lower the car, and put some new shocks like the tokico. Mine still does it I think the stock shocks are the problem. Mine is still really bouncy but hopefully I can afford new shocks soon.

Get new shocks like Tokico blues, I used to have them w/ stock springs
the ride felt so much better than when i had stock shocks, it is not as bouncy as stock. nice firm ride..

Will the firmer shocks make the ride firmer on the bumps but even out the bounce ?
I'm a little confused at what firmer shocks do ?
Seems like the stock shock are firm (too firm ?) but maybe it's an illusion. The bounces are fast not slow like a Buick or something.
I admit my ignorance to shocks. I guess I might consider doing the backs. Are they self installable or do you need to have the car on a rack to do the rears ?

its alot of install work. Everything has to come off. But yeah, firmer shocks will mean less bounce, but the stock ride is pretty bad imo. Lowering springs will help a little. When I was driving it to the dealer after I first got it, my dad said the rear was bouncing up and down the whole way from behind.

Shocks/struts control the rebound, thus eliminate or reduce bounce.
The stock struts suck, the stock struts suck. My car porpoised like it was clear ocean water and the waves were high. Personally, I think you should save your money and buy a set of coilovers. I have the Tein SS and I cannot find anything wrong with them, plus the car can be altered for both ride height and rebound. Certainly the best mod for suspension. The only down side is cost, but this will drastically alter what you think about your car.

I talked to a local guy about the teins today. He quoted me about 1400 for everything. I have no idea if that is a good price but he seemed sold on them for nice setup. How will they affect the ride harshness ? Will it make the pavement cracks more noticable or better?
Seems like a lot of money to spend but I guess it could be worth it if It makes me like my car...
I have to ask myself what was honda thinking when they set up this suspension... I don't remember the earlier civics behaving like this.

I'm having the same problem in NYC! My car has 80k miles on it, and I think the entire suspension is original. It's so bouncy, it gets very frustrating. Ever ridden the BQE? It's a roller-coaster ride on a civic. Man, I feel your frustration. Did you ever replace your struts?
Hi There, thanks for the reply. I haven't replaced the stuts yet... I've been considering the Tokico Blues but haven't done it yet. I guess it annoying that the 03-05 have a different bolt size... so I have the drill them out and void the warranty to do so. I still haven't sorted out my issue. If I put about 100 lbs in the back of the trunk it rides better. Or if I fill up the gas tank it's a little better as well. I guess these shocks are under dampened but I guess I wonder why Honda did that.
I just wonder what kind of ride I'll end up with. I don't just want to blow cash on struts and I still don't like how the car drives. I drove a couple of 3 series bmw's (2000 323 and 2003 325) recently and they have the ride I'm looking for. Tight but not harsh, well controlled. I've also driven a 6th gen civic lately and there is no comparison to that well controlled ride. What was honda thinking on the 7th gen suspension.
