Removing sound deadening material from trunk?

hi guys. i've started my project of stripping out my trunk. i've got it all out but that sound deadening material. Was wondering if there is an easy way to get it out? if not what do you think might help to ease the process of getting it out?

I really hate doing it, but eventually I'll have to clean off the tar residue with turpentine or something and paint over the bare metal spots. It looks like crap anyway so prolly I'll just put carpet and cover it up
