Best oil to use for 02' Honda Civic
I just use mobile one synthetic 5w 20, in fact, I just changed my oil like three days ago. I don't know much about oil, but if the temperature gets colder, should I be using other rating besides 5w 20?
no the thinner oil like 5 w15 or 5w20 lubricates the engine better then the thicker oil like 10 w 30 or 15w30 and when its realy cold oil resembles syrup so the thinner the better also thick oil can reduce hp
im a psychopath...what are you looking at?

ya'll missing the point of the lub concept. 5 w 20 means that at cold temperature, the oil will have a viscosity of 5 during cold weather and a 20 means, it is the viscosity for warm weather... so getting a 5 W 20 and a 5 W 15 does not make a difference during colder weather because it has the same viscosity of 5 during cold weather.

"They are easily recognized by the dual viscosity designation (i.e. 10W-30 where the 10W is the low temperature, or winter designation and the 30 is the high temperature designation)."

That's why the OWNER MANUAL (please read this) says that 5w20 should be used unless start conditions are under -20F (I think that's the temp, some please check to make sure though) then use 0w20.
So 5w20 SHOULD be used unless you live in very cold areas where 0w20 should then be used. It's right in the owners manual with a pretty little graph.

As for what kind of oil to use, synthetic is always better if you want extened oil changes. If you just wat to go say 5k miles between oil changes a good dino oil will work fine. Note I said GOOD dino oil. I think Jiffy Lube uses quaker state though, not my favorite but I guess it works. I would just buy Mobil 1 synthetic and do it my self, it will probably cost less than having them put dino oil in and you can easily go 7.5k to 10k (depending on your driving habits) on this oil.

Well, I keep them around, beause I'm devloping an oil FAQ thread to answer all this, but in the mean time these threads tell me what I need to put in them.
All I know is the manual says 5w20, so does the oil cap, so I use 5w20 Castrol Synthetic every 3000 miles. Nothing has gone wrong in over 50,000 miles. It only costs me like $18.50 every change too.

3,000 miles with a synthetic oil is WAY to often, but what ever you like.
ok so i know the difference about the oil 5w... 10w..... oil thickness but still have a question. Here in belgium they always use semi synthetic 10w40 but what is the effect
on the engine whit 10w40 or 5w15?the thinner oil will be faster spread in the engine.?
I also read that more power loses with 10w than with 5w.sorry if the english is not that good.
Someone fill me in on the actualy effect on the engine.
thx
