C5 corvette gets beaten by yours truly
Hehe. Ok, first off, I know damn well that any C5 vette, would/could/should beat me without breaking a sweat.
However. If the driver is as competent as your average mentally retarded monkey, then anything is fair game. And I do mean mentally challenged severely. Like, a monkey that spends all day knitting something that isn't there would have had a better chance than this tool.
I'm driving down the freeway today, and get a yellow C5 behind me on an onramp. He's sticking close to my tail, but gets cut off slightly by traffic and forced to fall back. My exit is actually the next exit, so I stay in the right lane. The guy zips up the left lane, then moves over and gets next to me. He's kinda making it seem like he wants to run, however, my exit is quickly approaching so I put on my turn signal.
The guy slows way down, and moves in behind me, exiting the freeway. I turn left through the green light onto a 3 lane road. I take the left lane and he swoops out to the middle lane and does a ricer fly by.
As we approach the next intersection, there is some grass over on the right side of the road that is being watered by sprinklers. The right lane of the road has a small puddle near the intersection from the overspray. This, is where it gets interesting.
The guy is on street tires, and as we approach the red light, he zips over to the right lane, and intentionally drives into the puddle. I'm like... WTF? I stay in the left lane and as I get there he looks over and revs. He then attempts to do a burnout as if he was in the water pit on the drag strip. Now I'm literally laughing, which of course he doesn't like. His burnout lasts a whopping 2 seconds and he stops, with his nose now already half way into the intersection.
The light prepares to turn and i rev up to 6 grand. The light turns green and I dump the clutch. As I take off, I think he must have left a traction control on or something, because his car bogged way down at the first barely audible squeak and I quickly started pulling away.
THEN, he apparently figured out what had happened and turned off the TCS and slammed the gas. But of course, then he did nothing but spin, and I could hear his tires squealing and see him fishtailing a bit in my sideview. By this point I am laughing and racing away. He eventually starts to slowly catch up, but I shut down at 80mph before approaching the next intersection where traffic was waiting. I had a convincing "lead" to say the least.
Hehe. my first C5 kill.

holy $hit, that's really freakin weird... i was sitting next to a new 'Vette today at a red light and started wondering if anyone on this site has beaten one, and i thought that if anyone had, it would have been you...i was about to head to this forum and address a topic to you asking if you had ever had a run-in with one, and the first thing i see is this post
great story, bro

Does it even classify as a race?
Did this guy look like he even owned the corvette? Or was he some guy taking a joy ride in a friends or daddy’s ride? (Sounds like it was). I mean seriously who doesn’t know how to turn traction control off on a vette... its a damn button on the center counsel, its the same in the c6. A monkey can tap the damn button and yes there is three modes available, but if you can afford a corvette you should be able to read your CV display which tells you what mode you’re in...

BTW nice job shutting down at 80 because he would have come back..Brainless driver or not and rape you a new one..
You know what... I been thinking the c5 doesnt burn out that long if you gun it off the line without traction control.. in fact it just squeeks for a secound or two from a launch. I know because my dad has one, C5 convertible with a performance rear axle..
Im going to have to call
sorry man... unless this guy had some very shitty yokohama tires instead of goodyears that were wet like you said and the guy reved the engine up popping the clutch which you would have to do it on purpose. I mean seriously....
BTW I posted your story on redline corvette, maybe find out who the "moron" was in that state..

he admits he beat the driver, and given what he said its 100% believable (dumbass driver + no traction = slow no matter what car you are driving).
deal with it, and quit being butt-hurt. it has nothing to do with the fact that it was a vette.

and why do you say that? maybe he did work really hard and earn the money to buy that car. Just because he cant drive it doesnt mean he doesnt "deserve" it. Hell, IM 100% sure over 90% of the members on this board would have problems driving a C5 if they had the chance to drive one on a daily basis.

so what's the problem? some crap *** tool in a vette couldn't possibly lose to a mid 13 second car? are you claiming that all C5 vettes run at least 13.5 no matter how stupid/crappy the driver is? if so, i can gladly show you video footage from my last track visit where a guy in a C5 couldn't get out of the 14's to save his life.
BTW, Ive driven a C5 and a C5 ZO6 on an actual track. The C5 being at a GM t est drive/auto-x event. The TCS was turned on the "mild" setting... and yes I was still able to roast the tires. Pretty NEW tires too.

this story was intended for a bit of good humor regarding the vette driver. it could have been ANY car, and i would still post it.

Ok? did i say somewhere that this guy was a GOOD driver? who the f*ck knows why people do some of the things they do when they are driving. the guy floored it off the line, sounded like TCS had been turned back on (even though he did a burnout in the "water pit", so who knows what he was thinking). I jumped ahead, and then all i heard was tire squal after that and saw him fishtailing a bit, as I continued to pull away. then it looked like he had traction, and eventually he started pulling on me a bit (not much by the time I shut down though).

Im just finding it hard to believe thats all Im saying.. its my opinion
anyways I got bored went out took some pics.. This sorta makes the guy seem like he doesnt really own the car. Your story doesnt add up about the traction part.

Im sorry but the guys at redline been talking about this, like I said not even a monkey could **** up how to change driver aids on a corvette.

as i said, the last guy at the track couldn't break out of 14's with his C5 to save his life. for you to argue that such an encounter could never happen is just plain ridiculous.

you have the option of nothing, full on TC, or the minimally defeated "sport" mode. and as I said it WILL let you smoke the stock gumballs.

come up with something other than "well it just couldn't happen, and the guys over at redline said there's no way he could make a mistake on his traction settings". otherwise don't even bother posting.
back to the mars lander thing....
if an engineer can screw up miles vs kilometers on a billion dollar mars lander project, a tool shed in a vette can screw up what TCS setting he had. and how do you know that he didn't think he'd do better WITH the TCS on? who said it even had to be an accident?
amazing what people will argue.

Yea, what you linked shows that there are 3 settings, like I was referring to. Sorry I didn’t know what each specific setting was called.

Honestly, if you are going to bitch about semantics, I have better things to do.
And please watch it with the pics. Im trying to eat here!
