True Cold air - pic!

Ok, me and my buddy did this about 1 month ago but I didn't have time to post it, I donno if any1 else has done it before, but I believed I'd get colder air if I go right down.
I have 1 question though, since I'm using a slightly different pipe for the added section I was wondering if that would effect the performance. heres a pic of that section:

Isn't that where the Injen CAI goes?

heat convection

I like the setup, but there's one thing I'd like to point out; if the tubing is metalic, it will tend to transfer engine bay heat into the intake air. This is why many of the latest intake designs use plastic runners - to insulate that cold air from the engine heat, which can get way up there during medium to slow driving. Having inlets for outside air to cool off the engine bay can only help matters.

I'm not sure but if they do, it probably costs too much. I also figured if I make it myself I could put the bypass anywhere I like.

That's exactly where the Injen CAI sits.
None the less, you probably didn't pay as much to make yours.

EDIT: Looks like the hose going from your head to your intake is kinked... i'd fix that.

i would recommend some heat wrap, otherwise, that pipe is going to be hot making the air hot.

Wink

I guess in Canada you won't have any problems. for true cold air you don't want it that close to the pavement, especially in hot climates. The air coming off or that close to the black pavement can be very hot. In very hot climates it can be over 180 degrees F.

What kind of coupler are you using there?

Another option would be to use some straight silicone hose for the section or sections nearest the engine. Look at www.stylinmotors.com/turbohose.html

Good job so far.

If you are worried about the heat transfering from the metal pipe to the intake, then silicone will reduce that. In addition, silicone hose is very easy to clean. Wipe with rubbing alcohol and it looks brand new again, for years and years. The color or glossiness does not fade. If you do want to use the metal pipes I would look into a 3 inch coupler in silicone turbo hose and use a couple of t-bolt clamps.
