So i took my K20 to the track

Last night was the first time i took my car to the track in 2 months!i was like a little boy in a candy store. So many cars to race soooo little time. i got about 18 runs in, but the best i could hit was a 14.9@93.82. Its like every time i went to take off i had NOOOO traction all the way threw 3rd gear. So i need some tires, any suggestions there? Also my intake sits right on my upper radator hose so im pumping HOT *not warm or cool* air in to my car. Any ideas on how to render that? Well anyways just thought i woudl share my experince, nothing special.

What was 60'?
With 93-94, you should be around mid 14 or lower.

I ran 14.7 consistantly , which was only at 92mph.

Keep practicing on launching

I know how to drive, But with flat spots all over my bald *** tires its kind of hard to get a decent 60 ft time 2.7. 2.9 3.1 when your tires just spin and you dont have the key to rotate or change you tired out. I know how to drive in a straight line. (just forgot to mention that part about my tired.)

Get some new tires and try again. Low 14s shouldn't be a prob with good traction.

No they arent. Not with that trap speed. @ 93MPH he should be pulling down mid-high 4 second times with proper launches and traction. You need to get a handle on how ETs and trap speeds corelate.

BTW, I would have thought all the effort of a K20 swap would net you some better times then that. Lets see a full mods list.

I mean you are pulling the same times that stock RSX-S should be doing. And you dont weigh nearly as much as one.

it's only about 200-300 pounds lighter isn't it? someone help me out here. ex weight vs type S weight. i'm too lazy to look.

i would think just the swap would put the civic into mid 14's at best. ?? and yes, a 93mph trap is really about a 15 flat or high 14 at best.

Im sure his trap speed will go up be a few mph though once he learns to launch better and drive better with the car. JDM K20 better be good for at least mid 14's if not better for that kind of money.

Trap speed has no relation to how well you launch. At most there will be a 1 or 2 MPH difference but that’s usually due to weather and track conditions varying.

Im assuming by his 60 foot time hes spinning down the track quite a ways. by spinning hes wasting that distance that he needs to go in order to get a better top speed. I know that your highest trap speed and best ET will almost never come out of the same run. Your telling me a K20a is only good for a 95 mph trap speed in a Civic? I hope thats not all it can do...

it all comes down to weight.

the civic weighs about 2600 pounds stock. the RSX-S weighs about 2800 pounds stock. save engine weight differences, that's a 200 pound difference. a stock RSX can do 14.9 with a fantastic driver. if you think 200 pounds is going to get you low 14's then you're doing way more than just wishful thinking.

scansel ran a 14.7@93 mph with a 2.348 60' ... so I think a 93mph trap speed would be good for a 14.8 or better with a better launch.

According to edmunds, an 01 Civic EX weighs in at exactly 2550 ... +100 pounds for the extra weight of the K20a.

K20a's have 20 more hp and are also upgraded to a 4.76 final drive from a 4.38 (?) final drive ... plus, they have a flywheel that is 6 pounds lighter than the k20a2... so imo, the K20a's are considerably faster than the K20a2's ...

the average bone stock dyno of a K20a engine is 190 whp ... with a few mods, he should be at more power than that ...

He has the DC5R swap and tranny. It has more hp than the rsx and geared more agressively.

That was my take on the matter, if he is spinning that bad(halfway down the track) he is not accelerating as fast as he could and therefore with traction he would accelerate quicker and trap speed would go up.

hence the reason i said flat 15 or high 14's. however, a trap with nitrous will get you a bit lower ET than a trap with being naturally aspirated. so you're comparing apples to oranges.

ah i see. so as i asked above. what does the DC5R run in the 1/4 mile? take that and subtract maybe .2 seconds at most and you'll have an idea of what he should run with just the swap.

according to that, the 1/4 mile (0-400m) is 14.3 seconds

the actual dc5-r car weighs 1180 kg with a/c and 1170 kg without a/c ... which converts to about 2601 pounds with a/c and 2579 pounds without ...

so in other words, it's not really much of a weight savings. if the DC5R weighs 2600 pounds, and the civic weighs 2650 with that engine, then there would be a slight weight gain.

even so, obviously he should be in the mid 14's for sure.

dam i was lauchning with stock tires that were bald as hell and still got alright 60ft times. Just keep practicing or save for new tires.

no way. high 14's at best. 200hp with LSD and 6 speed and it's as fat as the type S is here.
