did you get her insurance info? if all you got is her license plate, then you cant exactly report it as a hit and run. so unless you happen to see her again, you might be kinda screwed. just hope she doesnt have some damage and try to report a hit and run on you.

but if you call the police and tell them "yeah this girl hit me the other night, i didnt think anything of it at the time but now have some damage. Can you run this license plate and tell me who she is and maybe where she lives?" i dont think they would probably help very much. One option, and its a long shot, the state of NY requires that all ins companies report each policy that is started and stopped so that each registered vehicle maintains coverage, which means they should have it on file. I say call the DMV with the license plate and tell them what happend. Its possible that they might be able to tell you who shes insured with. You might want to go down there in person if possible. The NY DMV is a b**** to call, ive done it before and waited on hold for over an hour.

I say that anytime you get hit at night, and you get out of the car, ALWAYS get their information, ALWAYS call the police and report it, even if it's on private property, you will want a record of it. Because your insurance company is going to want to know that you did everything your are SUPPOSE to do when you get hit and there are witnesses.

What is the proper thing to do class? Exchange information, collect statements, report it to the police.

Otherwise, you'll have to settle on EATING the repairs, and pay out of pocket. Which I have a feeling that is what your insurance company might be telling you.

The longer you wait, the more time she has to say, she has no idea what your talking about, and that those scratches where there when she walked past you and flipped you off. And the only reason you copied down her plate number was try to get her into trouble, because she flipped you off in the parking lot.

your lucky your not in Canada, if you get rear ended or any type of accident on private property (like the drive thur) its 50/50 liability. Cop doesnt care who hit who and how since there not official highways or streets
