JUNKYARD WARS! turbo questions inside. help if u can.
ok, my car is slow as im sure we all know. i want it to be quicker and i know the downfalls of turbos but i know its a good cheap way to get it goin good. i know alot about engines and cars but turbos i dont know as much as i want to know. my question to you guys is this.......
if i go to a junkyard to "borrow" a turbo for my car, should i take it off an eclipse, saab, audi, or something else (the saab would be most commonly available)?
which one has a turbo that is also used in d17 turbo kits? (so that id be able to get header and other parts easier).
ok my last question for you turbo geniuses is if ive got the turbo what else will i need,(i know some things but i imagine theres a few little ones i didnt know) and what will i be able to take off the car and use on mine?
edit: plz dont tell me it will cost too much to install because id be doing it all with help from my bro.

Junk yard, eah?
I dont know how you will fit all this stuff from scrap yard, but since you asked:
Eclipse gen 2 had t25 turbo + down pipe, intercooler, BOV, IC piping, boost gauge (?)...take whole car, restore it and drive it, thats a good way! lol
Seriously, take all part I listed, then buy HKS manilod and use rest of the needed parts from somewhere else.
Also 2nd gen 300 zx had t25
1st gen 300zx t3, kinda small ar, but good with t3 mani and.... blah, blah, blah.....

My boy got a Turbo from Pick N Pull off of a Volvo, Air Research, cannot remember the AR, upon further review it was a fairly new turbo...no shaft play and in great condition! Best of all got it on half price day, cannot remember how much it was total!!

Junk yard car, doesnot mean bad turbo. Problem is some manufactures use non-standard turbochargers. Turbo size may be good, but you may have do a lot of custom work to fabricate flanges for mani and downpipe.
DSM and 1st gen 300zx turbos have t25 and t3 footprints respectevly. Makes life little easier.

read all the basic and custom stuff
Judging by the questions you have, you have alot to learn. Read those and go from there. You'll learn that you just can't "get a turbo, bolt it on, and go"
