Ticking noise under hood
Ticking noise under hood
There is a noise that seems to be coming from the top end of the engine( around the camshaft). The noise seems to come on around 2400rpm or so. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be?
DONT PANIC

wtf are you talking about?
the only time the car fires anything out of normal order is when the car fires the injectors in "batch-fire" mode. And thats usually at high RPM and WOT.
Not even sure if these cars do that......

Cam gear noise a possibilty ? Even with the stock cam gear it making a slight ticking sound. I noticed mine was louder when we put the AEM adjustable on + removing the cover.

yep, time to do a valve adjustment. I wouldnt leave it for too long, right now you are prolly losing more of what little performance our engines have, thats the damage....lol. But i would get it done asap, its much cheaper than replacing a bent valve.
Turboengnr, our cars do batch fire haha. batch firing 440cc injectors makes a lot of smoke. I forgot my code scanner and I couldnt reset the ECU so I crept it to my shop for about 300ft. No mosquitos came out for a week.
My car always ticked a little since it was brand new. I adjusted the valves to spec and it didnt go away. The guy at the dealership said it was normal, as long as it wasnt really loud.

if you decide to get the valve adjustment, makesure the place leaves your car there either over 4 hrs before he does the adjustment or the valve adjustment will be off even more... (car HAS to be cool) its only 90$-100$ at local shops, or if you have a feelers gauge it can be done in your yard in about 2hrs or so for a beginner, just know how to get your vehicle to TDC and the right order and you are set... any helms/haynes/chiltons manual gives perfect step by step instructions...
It's most likely the valves. Compression is lost and performance and mpg will suffer, other than that it's pretty much just annoying.
Do you run 0w-20 or 5w-20 oil? If so use 5w-30 and see if it goes away. If it doesn't then adjust your valves.
If you never did valves before and don't know anyone who has a clue, I recommend taking it to a shop because setting the pistons in the right position for each intake and exhaust valve can be tricky for rookies.

well the car died last week on the way to work. I took it to a mechanic and I managed to mess up the bottom end. believe he said a rod. at least some good will come of this. gonna be having the them all replaced with forged and prob have some top end work done as well as long as the crankshaft is still ok.

Come on yall we dont use bombs in this day and age, we use chemical wepons. gees. Thats just the small eggs of the boocoolie hatching, eventually it will spead like wild fire.
im also experiencing a ticking noise that seems to be coming from my ignition box rattling against something... im not to sure what the problem is, and i dont have time and money to bring it to the dealer now...
well gonna be four months later on the 23rd and still no car. the guy working on it is gonna throw in a direct port nitrous kit because of all the bs ive had to go through. Ill fill everyone in when I get it back and know exactly what was done.
