Throttle Body Heater Bypass - WHO HAS IT!
Hey Guys, Gearbox started that thread about the throttle body heater bypass and how to do it and such, some people had problems, some loved it, some hated it etc.....So I'm starting this thread for us to get a list of who has it bypassed, if they like it, where they live (for the climate), how they bypassed it, any issues they had and if it was worth the 5 min. of their life to do it. So I'll start it.
I've had it done on my 01 dx for about a year, no problems, i noticed a difference, so i like it, and the way i did it was i got a peice of hose (i dunno what size cuz i'm at work, but i'll get it when i get off and edit this), got drunk, walked around with the hose in my hand singing "I got hoes," they just looped it, and i live in Phoenix, AZ.
NEXT!
EDIT: the original thread on this is: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=208122

03 lx auto. Mine is fine for about 5 months. I live in Maryland, so I see both climate extremes for a little while. I haven't had any idle problems. It feels good right now, but it hasn't been very cold with it on yet so we'll see.

In case you havent seen, Gearbox is claiming this is effecting his idle, making it feel slugish ect.
He did the same with intakes and spark plugs also. Here a link

Ive had this mod for 3 years now with no problems.

can anyone track down any pictures for this? I need pictures!!!
At any rate, could I just take one of the hoses from wherever the coolant originates from and just loop it around to just circulate it? I might still get some clamps for tb hose, could probably just use my stock hoses so if I were to swap back it would be easy.

I did it, I didn't have problems, but I didn't really notice any benifit to it either...As far as people saying it affects the idle, I don't know how that could be doing this mod...I think gearbox had some bad work done to his car for the HP numbers and issues he has with all his mods, but that's another thread

Stupid hose down below was a royal pain to reconnect with conventional wrenches... took 1 hour to just do that.. shear determination

I highly highly highly doubt it has any affect with the idle.

It does, i took it off last night my car runs so much smoother now, think about it this way, you have a metal cookie sheet and you set an ice cube in the corner, does it change the entire temp on the cookie sheet right away?

k, let me explain, you have a large hunk of metal that has a very small cavity where liquid runs through that is actually cooler than the engine. you remove that liquid from that every small cavity and yes, that very small cavity maybe slightly cooler, but it's not enough to cool the TB any more, try this metaphor, cool a keg with one ice cube.....actually that one wont work either, the ice cube continues to cool something til it's melted, the cavity for the throttle body heater doesn't have anything to cool it once it warms up.
Ummmm, seriously, it shoudn't have no affect on the idle....I still have no idea on what your "metaphor" has to do with the TB on our cars, but if it makes you feel better about yourself than it's all good

now take the same coolant, run it through the entire throttle body and guess what happens? your throttle body gets hot as hell. Does this affect air intake temps? certainly. If you have a cold air intake it will help cool the throttle body, but you need to be running a lot of cold air to cool a 100F+ degree throttle body that is constantly being heated up by ~212F degree coolant.
A looped coolant throttle body will be cool (or warm at best) to the touch and the cold air passing through will keep cool.

on the test runs the collant was at 180F, and the coolant is not running through the whole TB, it's running through something smaller that 1 cubic inch, also, the air is not stionary, the air is constantly moving, so it's contact with the metal on the TB is momenary at best.

180 degree coolant is still very hot. your throttle body will still be insanely hot since there is a constant flow of it running through your tb. TOUCH YOUR THROTTLE BODY AFTER A DRIVE. better yet, touch your intake if you're afraid that you'll burn your hand. it'll be very hot if it is not made of plastic.
the t/b heats up more than just the air passing through it.

it's in that other thread that s2000man01 made (the temps that is), I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I'm just letting you know that it does nothing....Look in that other thread than there's engineer's specializing in thermal dynamics that explain how it doesn't do anything. PLus if it did, dont you think Honda would of put a valve that would close when the engine hit operating temp? and dont pull the "it costs too much" card Honda doesn't care about something when they make the hazard light switch cost 13 dollars.....for a switch....

Done on 03 EX using existing hoses. Cannot really tell any difference. Live in New Mexico. Elevation 5292 feet. Temp been in 10's-20's in mornings this winter so far. No problems.
