Urgent Gauge Cluster Swap Question Question

I have searched the site and I haven't found a definitive answer-is it possible to swap gauges from an 01 into my 04 VP without rewiring? I really want plug and play. THanks

I dont think so man... you're gonna have to switch the pins out of the harness. There was a DIY to switch 01 to 04s awhile ago, im pretty sure you can just reverse the process... someone please link him to the DIY.

You will have to get the new cluster reflashed if you want the accurate mileage on it as well. Honda can do that, not sure how much though. They may want some sort of proof for original mileage??

from what i've heard 2001-2003 CLUSTERS can be swapped straight into 2004-2005 Civics.

The other way around is different (04-05 clusters into 01-03 cars) and requires rewiring since the newer clusters are more complex (?) or basically differently designed

yeah i was going to put DX/VP since the member who posted a thread about it here on the site did it on his VP.

Dont really see why someone with an LX/EX 2004 or 2005 would wanna swap to the older cluster (it's plainer looking)

If you have a vp, it has the older style cluster. Any 01-02 cluster will swap without rewiring. The newer cluster with led and ring display will not work without rewiring. Only thing with swapping clusters is reflashing current mileage at a speedo shop.

that is correctsa!

But use common sense buy an automatic cluster (has PRNDd2 column) if you have an auto. buy a manual cluster if you have a stick

Not without rewiring the pins in the cluster harness. I've heard there's a DIY that you can follow, on this site somewhere

2001/2002 clusters look like this -

(auto trans)

2003+ clusters look like this -

(manual trans)

all the lights/indicators (like the ABS, Maint Req'd, & SRS) should still work properly if you are downgrading from a ex to an lx cluster. You might have to reset them just once after installing the replacement cluster.
Resetting SRS light - http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=155251
Resetting Maint Req'd light - http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=174951
Resetting ABS light - should turn off after driving a bit, if the system in your car is working properly, if your car is equipped with ABS.

Extra info - When you are switching a DX/LX to an EX cluster, the ABS light will always stay lit because the cluster cant find the ABS in the car since the models dont have them.
