ok, i just got my '03 EX sedan back out of the shop and i decided to get the windows re-tinted (was 35% all the way around...trying to keep it legal) to better match the new paint job (was NHBP, now Nissan's Super Black
)...i have 5% (limo) on all 4 doors and down the back and 35% down the entire front windshield...
just wanted to see how many of you TX residents have illegal tint and how likely i am to get pulled over for it...

I have illegal tint and have been pulled over a few times for it. And have recieved a ticket for it once. But it all depends on the cop. Biug city cops dont care, but small city cops do.
you may run into a problem when it comes time to get an inspection. when i got an inspection a few months ago, they used a device to test the tint to see if it was legal. illegal tint = failed inspection.... at least in the dfw area.

i'm running 25% front windows and 5% the rest of the car in smoke mirror and never had a problem at all not even for inspections

i had 35% on all 4 doors and down the back and nothing (not even a strip) on the front for about a year, but that just wasn't working for me...you can see into the vehicle with 35% like there's nothing there, and it doesn't do much for sun protection either...
so i'm currently on vacation in FL, and after riding in a few friends' rides with similar tinting i decided to go for the 5%/35% i have now...
35% down the front doesn't make much of a difference honestly...it's much easier to see through out the front window than through the side windows when they were 35%...hurricane season is coming up here in FL and it's been storming pretty bad this week, and even at night in a torrential downpour i can still see fine...might have something to do with the reflection from the interior of the car or something, i don't know...if you wanna see what it looks like, just holla at me sometime, i'd be more than happy to show it off...
i reckon i'll give it a shot when i get back to TX and hope for the best...the first ticket will be brushed off, but i think if i get a second i'll just go back to the old legal limit...
thanks for the input guys, i'll make sure to keep the windows down

5% is what's normally referred to as "limo tint"...2.5% is only offered through those AutoZone/PepBoys/WalMart DIY films, but if you're gonna go that dark you might as well just buy a couple cans of spray paint and save yourself the money, cuz you ain't seein $hit whether you're inside or outside the car...

the texas law, if im correct states that 25% is the darkest allowable tint on all side windows even on the back sides(quarter windows) and any % can be applied to the rear window(defroster lines window). Windshield tint is illegal except of course for the strip of tint on the top of the windshield and tint that is amber yellow blue or red is also illegal(dont know why you would want colored tint anyways). Most "legit" shops will only put 35% on because of the slight tint that is already on the windows from the factory. That slight tint on top of the 35% is roughly equal to 25%. When you go to get an inspection they use a light meter that meausres the amount of light that is transferred through the tint. If it is less than 25% you will fail inspection and you will have to strip the tint and come back for another inspection. Some policemen carry these light devices and can issue you a ticket on the spot if they choose. I drove a car with 5% all around once and it was horrible! At night headlights looked liked candles. It's unsafe in my opinion.

^ yeah i just recently heard that as well...when i got my original tint job a year and a half ago i was told that the TX legal limit was 35%, but someone recently told me that it was lowered to either 25% or 20%...either way, mine's still darker so it doesn't matter...
as far as the inspections go....my last inspection took like 11 seconds cuz the dude basically loked at my car and presumed it safe and handed me a pair of stickers...and if i'm not that lucky this time around, maybe if i'll "accidentally" drop a $50 and the inspector can "accidentally" pick it up and let me on my way
and everybody is going to have their opinion of it being unsafe or whatever until they see it for themselves, so i'm trying to get some decent pics so i can post em up and let you see for yourselves...anyway, thanks for the feedback y'all...
