Srt-acr??

Well I know someguy with a SRT but its a ACR he says...I asked him what it had and he said It was a upgrade on alotta things like suspension and some other stuff. I showed him the vid of the Cobalt SS catback and he said in a dead serious voice "that's my competition". So I guess Cobalts and SRT are in the same category?? Well this is what he said "I guess it is the same as The SRT-4 except it has a diffrent suspension. The suspension has five diffrent settings. The ACR is the version that races in the SCCA racing circuit." Its one fast car thought..And he doesnt really care about handling since he's not gonna be hitting a turn at 80+ mph or anything like that..he drives it regular. So in that case Handling=Doesnt matter Speed=Pertty Fast Looks=

ACR Stands for American Club Racer. Dodge built alot of Neon ACR's in the past and most if not all were sold to people who ran SCCA Club Racing. I.E. its a pourpous built race car. to allow Dodge to compete better in actual Club racing, and they did so Very well for many years. (Proof that even a blind squirle can find a Nut some times) its a Logical extention of that idea (Build a car for Road course Racing) that dodge would eventually build an ACR verson of the SRT-4.

Personally The ACR would be the only Version of the SRT-4 that I would ever consider owning.

BTW, to clarify a bit on what it took to make a Neon a compeditive Showroom Stock Race car.... they came with Adjustible Koni Shocks (stock), No rev-limiter, They changed the spring rates and anti-roll bars Front and rear, they slotted the front struts to allow for increased negitive camber ect ect ect.... Like I said, it was a pourpous built race car.

I believe the SRT-4 ACR uses Tokico shocks rather then the older one that had Konis. (I'd rather have konis)

interesting info. so they had to make the ACR just to be competitive. and it seems like it had some major changes? how many ACR's did they actually make?

Just some info I Dug up on the Original ACR, Production Ran from 1994 to 1998-99. Starting with the sedan and adding the Coupe in 95.. a total of 4256 ACR's were built, 1194 Sedans, 3062 Coupes... The 1st year of production (94) only 182 ACR's were built, and you had to be an SCCA member to purchace one.

Neon ACR Sedan/Coupe

When the Neon was introduced in 1994, Chrysler decided for some fortunate reason to make a splash in SCCA racing and autocross. The Neon ACR was developed as a race-ready (just add rollcage), low cost machine, using as few special parts as possible. So that the first production run would wind up on the track, not the street, buyers were required to hold an SCCA membership. This original '1994-1/2' batch consisted of 182 SOHC-powered ACR sedans. Chrysler also sweetened the pot with substantial contingency money for ACR racers.

The original ACR was built on the Base Sedan, and the only factory option was the rear defroster. A/C and radio were not available, nor were the rest of the luxury or convenience options. In keeping with its mission, the ACR has never been available with an automatic transmission or antilock brakes. After the initial production run, the ACR package (also known as the Competition Group) joined the regular lineup, so A/C and radio became options. Non-SCCA folks were allowed to join the fun, as well.

ACRs have several distinguishing features. Foremost is the SDK (Competition) suspension with front and rear swaybars and very stiff struts, to bring handling up to racetrack strength. The steering ratio is quicker than standard, and brakes are four-wheel disc. ACR hubs are 10mm thick (compared to the standard 8mm) to meet road racing stresses. The manual transmission has both a lower final drive ratio and a lower fifth gear for better acceleration. All ACRs get the oversized radiator from the air conditioned car. All ACR Sedans have the SOHC engine; all Coupes get the DOHC. These engine choices have never varied throughout the life of the ACR, to avoid reclassification for SCCA road racing use.

Most ACRs were built on the Base chassis, to take advantage of the weight savings of minimal insulation or luxury options. The ACR Coupe started production in the '95 m/y using the Highline chassis (see the Base model history), then changed to the Base Coupe for '96 and '97 m/ys. All '98 and the few '99 m/y ACRs (Sedan and Coupe) use the Highline chassis, since the Base car was discontinued. Outside, the ACR has the Sport front fascia with empty foglight holes. Side moldings were not available from the factory, but sometimes added at the dealer. The interior was originally Base or Highline style (depending on the chassis); in the '96 m/y, the ANC option added a leather-wrapped shifter and steering wheel, as well as the Sport seats (with better lateral support) and Flash upholstery. ANC is now the standard interior since the Base car was discontinued in the '98 m/y.

The ACR designation has come to be known as "American Club Racing". However, it was originally just the sales code and has no actual significance. The same is true of the ANC interior, which is popularly held to mean "American National Champion".

The Dodge SRT-4 ACR is pictured at the bottom.

2005 Dodge SRT4 ACR

By Jean Jennings

PHOENIX, ARIZONA- There is no leaving well enough alone at Street and Racing Technology. The most rabid of the Dodge Boys first brought us the wicked-looking SRT4 in 2003, with a turbocharged, intercooled, sixteen-valve DOHC 2.4-liter four producing 65 hp more than the best Neon's 150-hp 2.0-liter. Then came 230 hp in 2004, the Mopar Performance Stage 1 turbo kit offering 10 more ponies for $399, and a Stage 2 kit upping the power to 260 hp for $999 or 265-hp for $1599.

SRT is now bringing back the American Club Racing (ACR) package-dropped in 2003-and also offers the utterly insane Stage 3 turbo upgrade kit. We've driven SRT4s with both. For pure, white-heat, sweaty-palms excitement, Stage 3 pushes the SRT4's power peak to 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. (Or 355 hp and 365 lb-ft with 100-plus octane gas!) Try that in the snow on summer tires (as we did) for a rush that will make your short hairs uncurl. The kit will cost you $4199.

The newly minted ACR package will hunker the SRT4 down and have it turning on a dime for an extra $1195 over the base SRT4's $21,195. Considering the list of mods starts with superlight sixteen-inch BBS wheels and 225/45ZR-16 BFGoodrich KDW2 tires, the rest of the package is virtually free. Five-way adjustable Tokico dampers, rear tension strut, larger front antiroll bar, spare tire and wheel, and seats that will accommodate shoulder harnesses complete the package. Grab the Stage 3 kit as a Mopar add-on, and kiss the competition good-bye.

SPECS

Price: $22,390 (ACR)
Engine: 2.4L DOHC turbo I-4,230 hp, 250 lb-ft
Drive: Front-wheel

Yeah, In the 1st auto cross we had this year there were two guys using a ACR in my class. It was a two driver car the one guy got 1st by a entire second and the other guy got 3rd so they did do a hell of a job on the car for the purpose of racing. Although there was a god awful sound comming out of the tranny the entire time. In talking with the owner he said that he thought it was 5th gear floating around it the tranny because the car would not go into 5th LOL

Heh, They didnt need to. In SSC (where the ACR ran for many years) Honda had the Si. which competed VERY well against it. Meaning it took Dodge to Seriously modify their exzisting car in order to make it beat what Honda was allready making and selling.

Dodge has run an ACR Neon since it first came out in 1995.

They stopped in 2002, and brought it back for the final year of SRT-4.

Less than 500 ACR SRT-4s were made.
