2001 - Civic EX Coupe 5 Speed
Hey everybody -
I have only posted a couple of times on here, that was before I started planning my build... I spend alot of time on superhonda forums...
and get alot of this...
.....
I tore up my old accord in a wreck (the girl i was dating decided to stop in the middle of the road while i was following her w/ no warning...needless to say we are no longer togeter) I also tore up my back.. I fractured my L1, and the proceses on both sides cracked and i messed up alot of muscle and nerve tissue
So now, I cannot wakeboard for a year, I cannot lift weights for a year, I can't pick up anything heavy for a year.. and I got a huge insurance check, and bought myself a certified used 01 Civic EX coupe.. It's a five speed. and the original owner had it repainted bright candy red and heavily clear coated..
lIt is a 5 speed...
So now I have a project on my hands.
As an informed noob, I know what i want now....
I have been advised not to waste money on bolt on engine mods if I am going to go turbo. I won't be buying all kinds of airbags, speakers, I.C.E, or anything. this is going to be a no frills highly tuned sleeper...
Anyway, so I guess I am looking for the following right now..
D17a2 Engine Components -
Cams shaft , Rods, Valve Springs, Retainers,
I would also like to find a block I can rebuild to handle more boost.
I won't be tearing out back seats, or putting a roll bar in this car or anything.
It's going to be a semi-daily driver.
Anyway,
Just looking for suggestions.
Thanks all...

Well... sorry to hear about the accident
congrats on the new car
My question to you though, why a cam? Very few after martket cams are going to be designed a for a turbo civic, none that I know of. An agressive turbo cam will have a longer duration while an aggressive N/A cam will have higher lift and shorter duration, the two don't mix well. Generally speaking, if you are going from N/A to turbo, the stock cam is your best choice, unless you want a costum one from HKS or something super expensive. And you really don't need to upgrade the springs and retianers unless you are going to try and rev faster, in which case you will also need a reflashed ECU (stand alone system would be better though), new springs, retainers, cam profiles, better ballanced internals, re balanced pulleys all over the engine and a couple things I have forgotten. Many people on here have safely ran about 10 or more psi on stock internals and heads for a while now and had no major problems with those parts. If you want tubro, the first thing to upgrade is going to be you clutch, they don't last much beyond 4 psi, and even then tend to slip.
As for a block, a couple of the K20 guys might have one, but generally your best bet is eBay. You may want to consider a K20 swap of this if this is your daily driver, but that just IMO.
Anyway, good luck and welcome to the site
