'01 Civic vs '04 Corolla S
Eh...i know this is stupid but my friend challenged me to a run. Both cars are autos, i have a 2001 civic EX and he's got a 2004 corolla s. We've both got intakes on the cars, ive got a full catback apexi exhaust. I dont know...any ideas on who can pull out of this?

I stayed neck and neck through 2nd gear against a LE model. And I have a 5 speed LX. Could be close, but some ppl on here will tell you that "you'll rape the Corolla" which is not gonna happen. As I said, could be close... try it and find out what happens.

The corolla no way you can win i hate them too but gotta admit i raced one when i had my intake exhaust headers and venom chip and he still beat me and he had intake exhaust and a hyper ground kit
it depends on how long of a stretch you guys gonna race. in short distances the corolla will have the slight edge, but in a longer stretch you will have an edge. why do i say this. the corolla has more torque and is lighter, but the engine and tranny are more responsive once the car gets rollin in a civic. if you read many car mag reviews comparing civics and corollas, the civic's tranny and engine are very responsive while the corolla tranny and engine is sluggish.

^^^
i hope your joking.
Anyways, i think you would lose, but not by much. The corolla has more torque, you can probably beat him in the top end, i think the corollas are more geared toward low and mid range power. Toyota auto trannies are better then Honda ones. The manuals might be different, but after driving camry's, accords and civics the toyota shifts way better for autos.

it's the exact same enignes as found in the celica GT & GT-S. they are simply tuned down to be more comfortable and less sporty.
the older corrollas may be less responsive then the older civics but the newer models running the 1ZZ and the 2ZZ are FAR more responsive then the civic. they will also gain more mod for mod. if someone wanted to make instant power all they'd have to do is spend the 5 minutes it would take to wire in a celica harness and change ecu's. then there'd be no contest lol

to go off topic, the gt-s in auto is not that reponsive either, i was driving one through a course and i was flooring it at times but it wouldnt downshift. the civic at 127 hp felt more responsive while its rolling with an auto. someone pointed out the the toyota auto trannys are better. they are better in the aspect that they shift smoothly, but they also shift sluggishly. hondas have a tendency to shift faster, but not as smooth. i used to own a corolla, it was smooth in shifting, but boy it didnt down shift as quick as my civic when i started pushing it hard.

if you use the shiftronic it's a tad better but still a stupid combination.

i can see your point. I never took my camry to the course, just on freeway ramps. I'm not sure if the gt-s auto comes with a overdrive feature, but if you were flooring it like that, its best to turn it off. If it did and you didn't turn it off, that could explain the more sluggishness of the shift. I know on my camry when i turned it off, it would shift all the way up to redline before shifting. When it was on, it would shift everytime it hit like 4k rpm.
I know the suspension is a hell of a lot better on the vics, but trannies, the award goes to toyota. You don't hear about toyota trannies dying after 30-50k like some of the 01 owners.

lol i didnt even know they even offered an auto. I thought it was manual only like the si's. I guess they offer it in auto, to increase sales. I know sales of the celica have been sagging over the last few yrs, still a great car, but you limit your buying audience by offering only manuals, since 90% of people drive autos.

2000 - nicely done for pretty much a 100% overhaul. started with a 6,000 rpm lift engagement and mid production changed to 6,200rpms.
2001 - they left it alone
2002 - added the super ghey 7800 rpm limiter severly hurting the performance value of the car.
2003 - introduction of DBW which is super ghey cause you can't run a new ecu.
2004 - enter the new egr system. now you can't run an aftermarket header ( not like any work anyways)
2005 - all new color, kept the egr system & DBW re-enter the 7800 rpm limiter. also the final year.
yes, the auto does have overdrive for saving gas.
as far as the corrolla goes, there's no difference in power until you go up to the XRS. the base, CE, S, etc.. all have the same power/performance pretty much. biggest difference is looks and things like cd players and crap.

Unless i heard wrong, please correct me. I remember reading it when i thought about getting a celica a long time ago.

well i'll take your word for it. I never drove a corolla, only camry's. I had a '96 camry, and it had a bullet proof tranny and engine. It went 190k before i traded her in for the civic.
