ECU Swap Automatic or Manual?
I have a 01 LX Manual tranny and going to do Head swap! my friend has a 02 automatic ECU that he could get me. Will this automatic ecu work with a manual trans car or will it not because of fuel and ignition maps? Yes i am aware of reflashing ECU and Yes i know i wont see a big difference but i am going with turbo after the swap, this swap is just going to get my by until i get the turbo and the motor built up to handle high psi.
Thanks for you inputs

Um, if you knoew, you wouldn't be asking "Will this automatic ecu work with a manual trans car or will it not because of fuel and ignition maps?"
So maybe you should educate yourself and not waste people's time when you could find it on your own.

Dude whats ur prob, i have spent at least a week on research and could not fine any info on this subject.. Its not a joe blow question just a tech question. yes it prob wont work because of the maps but i wanted to make sure, so once again if you dont know please do not reply and tell me to educate myself

If you have a 5 speed the auto ECU will work, but you will probably get a CEL (If you can live with it). Don't quote me on the CEL part but I'll promise you it can work. And pointless, you can tell someone to search, and THEN tell them the answer, but your just as guilty of using up bandwith by just posting search. See how big this thread got because you didn't simply say "search next time, but here is your answer."

So lets say i havce and auto, all i would need would be the tranny, subframe, and tidbit, and could keep my ecu?? wouln't it be trying to controll the tranny??
yup... thats what i was thinking thanks for all your help. End result MIL.... Not something im going to live with. My friend works at a honda dealer so i will have to wait for the correct ecu to pop up.

good luck with the swap!
heres a small tidbit that i think you guys might have overlooked... what trim is your car.. is it dx/lx or ex... if you use the ex ecu on a dx/lx setup you will get a CEL saying the vtec is malfunctioning..now if your car is a dx/lx and plan to swap a ex head on there and plan to use the ex ecu then your going to need to wire up the vtec into the wireharness cause the dx/lx harness does not have the wires in there...best thing to do is find the EX manual harness along with the 5 speed ecu

it wouldn't be hard to convert the lx/dx harness for an ex ecu. all the plugs are the same you would just need to add 3 pins into one plug. an boom done. the hard part is finding the the right pins to fit. but if you go to honda buy their book for $23 its easy to find where to put the 3 pins.
dont really need to find the pins.. i heres some info that might help

Sweet! I have printed that out already. thanks for all the input I want to do the swap next weekend! I going to be getting the ecu pretty soon, I guess i dont really need it until i finish labor/and ready to flash Ecu. I almost 75K also going to replace water pump and timing belt, along with swap. does anybody know when you should replace timing Belt and if these motors are interfernce motors?
