What is purple gas?
I know farmers around here get it for their equipment but what is different about it technically speaking? Couldn't find anything on it on google.

it is a form of diesel fuel. here in california there is purple or clear. purple is for agriculture only. I am not sure if there is a diferent chemical or additive formula but if you are caught with it in a road vehicle you get heavy fines.

ROFL at these responses
It is off road diesel fuel.......there is no road taxes placed on it b/c it is off-road. It is cheaper than on road fuel, hence the road taxes. The reason it is purple is b/c there is a dye put into it to distinguish it from on road fuel. If you couldn't tell, then every trucker would be using off road fuel in their trucks cuz it is cheaper.
Next time you pull into a gas station, look for the kerosene pump......notice how short the hose is. This is so ppl that have diesel engines don't pump it into thier vehicles.
Some trucks get pulled over at the scales and get thier tanks dipped and they check to make sure they are running on road fuel. The IRS is the one that does this, since it is a form of fraud.

They use that gas for construction equipment as well. It's true it is cheaper as it is taxed less.
Here in Canada the normal (road) diesel is blue, and the other red.
A friend of mine owns a small construction company. He told me that the red fuel will stain the fuel filter for a very long time, so someone could tell if you had used it in the past.

purple gas is the same as normal gas, it is just dyed purple so people can tell. it is not taxed, so it is cheap, but can only be used for offroad, or agricultural type vehicles. Thats y u felt no difference because its regular gas, just with a purple dye. ( has a lot of farmer friends

alot of ppl are calling it gas........it is diesel.
I am partners with my dad in a excavating business. We burn up about 400 gallons a week. It sucks b/c of the rising fuel prices and we already bid jobs.

'Purple' gas is available here (at least in Edmonton/Canada) from my understanding if one has an agricultural/famers plate/tag on their car. It is illegal to buy without that tag and from my understanding, the exhaust of the car will be tinged slightly purple so that one can be accordingly fined by simple visual inspection if running purple gas w.out proper documentation.
It is taxed less and if I'm not mistaken, it is available in both gas and diesel forms, though I could be wrong.

I know VP Racing makes gas in different octane rating and colors, both leaded and unleaded, oxygenated and not. I've ran a leaded mix (91 and 110, oh and a bit of oxygenated 93 and some 2-stroke oil) in my car before with absolutely no problems.
