Settin up a run. WRX VS 6thgen w/B18c1 motor
Well I'm setting up a roll race on the highway with my girlfriends brother. Just thought I'd post to get some feedback. Mainly from S2000man but others feel free to chime in. I've got a bone stock WRX and he's got a 6thgen Vic w/GSR motor with basic bolt ons. I just want to see how I'll do, topend wise. I know I'll keep up with him to about a little over 100mph then he'll slowly walk on by. What do you all think? Oh and don't worry. I'll post the results regardless of the outcome.
i vote for wrx. hes pushing around 180hp and like 140 torque? on a 6thgen chassis (assuming its a hatchback). it'd be pretty even though.
go from a stop and roll. be safe, not sorry

if you're stock he'll probably take you from a roll.
but if you go from a stop, get a good launch and he'll be playing catch up.
if you haven't launched a WRX it takes some practice. don't dump the clutch. the key to launching an AWD is to do some feathering when you launch. enough for the tires to barely break loose, but not too much as to cause you to bog down your rpms.

Aye, WRX's are tricky to launch. Even if you try to hold rpms at say 4k or so, the computer will not let you hold full boost. You have to be constantly blipping the throttle to keep your boost up. From what ive read on the Nasioc boards, the trick is to time your blipping so that when you are launching your RPM's are on the upward motion and peak boost.

Actually you are wrong. The GSR motor is infact B18c1. The LS motor is a B18b. Not picking a fight just corecting you.
S2000man.....I have actually mastered lauching my car thanks to my fellow members over at www.NASIOC.com. It's insane. Hold revs to 5k and quickly slip the clutch as fast as possible without dumping it. Tires let out a chirp, car squats, and just takes off like a bullet being shot out of a gun. It took about 10 or so launches until I got it right but it's all good now. I can get it everytime. I'm not worried about going at it from a dig at all. It wouldn't even be close.

Got him to come up to hwy 100 one night, and we lined up once at a light. We both launched, and even with him having 4 people in the car, that thing instantly put about 7 cars on us from the launch alone. It was like he got a 40mph running start. That thing was a beast.
a friend of mine on clubrsx raced a stock wrx off a roll and line and beat it both times. All he has is an cai, but the wrx driver was still learning how to launch his car. I say u will win off the line but off a roll i would pick the civic
from a stop..... civic bye bye
if the motor is a b18c and happens to have an lsd with i/h/e, in a hatch then it could be a good fight from a stop...
otherwise the civic will the roll...
comparing a awd180 to a lighter, more aredynamic 180+hp fwd....

Ok well a 5thgen Prelude will pull on a wrx on highway they really slow no offense. My hatch (JDM b18c swap) pulls about 3 1/2-4 1/2 cars but it's lighter than a 6th gen. Depending where you roll from, if from a 60mph roll he will beat you if you go from like a 40mph you might have a chance.
