clutch smell/ intake noise
clutch smell/ intake noise
Ok guys two questions, I have NO idea what is causing either one of them.
First the Clutch:
Whoever is from So. Cal reading this basically on the 405 freeway there is a big downhill stretch for about a mile, when I come home from school I usually just keep it in 4th gear and don't gas it, I just go down the hill in 4th so I don't speed up too much, occasionally lets say 3/5 days of the week about 3/4th down the hill I can smell clutch. Now my foot is NO WHERE near the clutch, so why would the clutch be burning for it to cause a smell?
Next the Intake:
Sometimes like every few weeks if I hit the pedal all the way and then just let go, the intake sounds like it blows or something, its like throaty popping sound, I was to say misfire but I know thats the wrong word. Basically its a throaty pop if that makes any sense to anyone. Any idea what that can be as well?

Intake sound is probably the sucking sound from the intake. Maybe? Someone help me..I know my intake has a sucking sound...idle your car and tap the accel see if it sucks. Do it somewhere quite.
Your clutch problem, are u braking down the hill? and your not using your clutch at all? if the hill is really long like u say and you are using you brakes a lot you will over heat your brakes and get a smell. Also if your riding your clutch a lot you will get a smell. Maybe your doing one of thses?
Hope this helps you find your problem.

Braking is minimal because 99% of the time there is no traffic so I have no need to brake, I just coast down the hill at around 60 in 4th, reason I keep it in 4th is so I don't end up going to fast, saves me from braking too much down the hill. I know the difference between clutch smell and brake smell. This is clutch smell FOR SURE. But I'm not even TOUCHING my clutch at all when the smell starts or at least 2 minutes prior.
The intake is not the normal sucking sound, the sucking sound is because of a leak usually one of the tubes isn't pushed all the way in, so it sounds like its turbo in a sense but not really. I'm just talking about occasioanlly it sounds like the intake is gonna blow for a second. It makes a BOOM sound and thats it...

I dunno. Only thing I can say is take it to the dealer and let them check it out, but the problem is that i'm almost 100% sure they'll tell you they weren't able to reproduce the problem.
When ever you have your car in gear and not hitting the gas you have your clutch is engaged. So instead of you using your brakes your using your clutch as a brake which isin't good for it but better than over heating your brakes. Thats why you shouldn't downshift while braking unless you have to or save brakes like your doing. I would just go to honda to make sure everything is still legit cause i'm no pro.
so why would that cause the clutch to burn, because the car is accelerating on its own? or because the clutch is acting as a brake so its burning down the clutch, because that downhill part is the only time it has ever happened.
Yes because your clutch is acting as a brake. But make sure you keep on using your clutch as a brake because you don't want to overheat your brakes. You can always take your car into honda and just find out and see what they say it wouldn't hurt to do so.
but while your going down the hill and you overheat your brakes=not stoping. I don't know about you but i would rather ride the clutch. Your brakes will get to hot and overheat. Even look in your manual they tell you to use your clutch as a brake on big hill.
Ya I see your point, basically would you rather burn some clutch or risk not being able to stop which = more trouble. Well thanks for your help I'm pretty sure your right and my clutch isn't slipping because it only happens occasional days and it makes sense, depending on how long I'm going down the hill without the brakes etc.
