VAFC WILL NOT WORK ON CIVIC EX 2K1!!!!!

Now that I'm f****, I want to tell you all that I called APEX factory and they said Apex Vtec Controller would not work on our cars. For those of you that have one of this, you can still change the fuel settings in different fuel maps, just like the SAFC, but you would not be able to adjust the vtec engagement point for now!!!!, That's why I still get a CK Engine Light if I hook up the vtec wire. If somebody is using this thing and is working properlly please, let us know. But till then, that's the word, and I hope I'm wrong 'cause I paid $380 for it.

They told me the same thing about my S-AFC. They said that they were not made for our cars.
But to the contrary, they are. Apex'i is just telling you that for the fact that they have not tested
it on a 2k1 civic (any model) and therefore do not know whether or not it will or can be considered a
performance upgrade. I am completely satisfied that there is a way to hook this thing up and it function
properly. I will talk to some of my friends that are in the car mod's business and see what I can find out.
Also maybe Honda can give me some insight on exactly how the V-TEC works and what all is necessary
to hook up a V-TEC controller.

my friend has his hooked up all the way EXCEPT for 1 wire. I forgot what it was for, but he actually got the VTEC function working for 1 run (then he had to restart the car b/c the rev limiter was kicking in @ 4,000 rpm). I rode with him for 1 of the passes he made and the car was a F*****G DEMON!!!!!!! SO GO***MN FAST!!! (I can't stress that enough!)

Please let us know how it goes and if you can use it with our cars!!!! You wouldn't think that it would be a problem but I guess there is certain things you have to do to our cars to make it work. Hey Boosted, I noticed that your from Gainesville Ga. I live there too and I seen your car in town. That **** is bad a$$ man.

There are a few members here who DID get the VTEC engagement to work. It requires alot of hookup and patience, but according to the post I read months ago, if I remember correctly, he said it worked just fine.

Here is the link to the DIY, try this on for size.

DIY for Hooking Up V-AFC

There you go dude, good luck. IM me if you get it working and lemme know how it goes, I want one badly.

hmmm maybe you would have saved some money considering they're listed to work for D16/B16 engines when you have a D17 in your 2k1

Anything you change will be "de-tuned" by the ecu (joys of OBD II), so don't waste your money. All it is going to do is "Look Cool" unless that is what you want.

I see results in the AFC part, and I saw results in the VTEC engagement part during the working runs. It's worth the money to get a S-AFC or if it works, a V-AFC.

NeoMagus: If you read the other post about the DIY to installing the V-AFC, you will see that he claims results.

There are people claiming they have seen god too? What's your point? Although you may see results, for about the first 10 mins of driving, I should clarify that.

Hey guys, let me explain.
First, NeoMagus...Yes, I would it saved money but the guy in the shop showed me the instructions and they have a diagram for 99 and up. So I decided to give it a try.
Second, WhosYoDadday85... Boosted, Knows the istallation, Also he's got an S-AFC(doesn't have a VTEC feature, it just controls fuel), I have a V-AFC which controls fuel and VTEC engagement point. As far as fuel control, it works fine but, VTEC engagement point, not working yet. If I use this feature, It will be good for about one run followed by a ck engine light, and a computer reset! So, I would it bought a S-AFC to control just fuel, that's what I'm doing right know anyway. I might get it to work later, who knows!
Still, you can increase HP by adding fuel properly, which I haven't done yet. That's why I am buying an a/f gauge before going to a dyno.

So far what I have found is that the problem is the engagement point that you set and maybe the amount of correction. so far I have found that if you set lo>hi at 3500 and hi>lo at 3000 everything works. I set it up to 4000 and I got the engine light again. I am still tweaking it so when I find out I will let everyone know. I also hooked up a v-tec light to make sure it is engaging, and it is. It is harder to tell at low rpms tho. I am going to the track thurs. 14 so i will find out if it is really worth anything.

Nyne - Cool, let us know how it goes. I'll be very interested to see some results out of this unit. If not, the S-AFC will still work and make a difference on A/F Ratio, etc.. Correct?

OBD-II Is autocorrecting to some extent, but it cannot change its paramater values and settings WITHOUT resetting. OBD-II really only lets you know when something is out of proportion.

For Example:
You install an intake. OBD-II sees the increased air flow, and now the current air flow is different from the air flow the last time you turned the car on.

Reset it, and all is well, because when you reset it, it re-learns everything all over again. It takes what it learns when it is first turned on and when it is reset, and if something doesn't match when the car is running, it throws out a Check Engine light.

So my theory would be that the S-AFC would work, however resetting the ECU every time you make a change could be necessary.

Don't bash me yet, this is just a theory.

the only problem is that the readiness codes take forever to set. My 3500 failed but it wasn't right away @ 3200 nothing has went wrong I am going to talk to a shop out here that has installed on the 2k1 already maybe they have some info. I was thinking that maybe it was the OBDII but we are not the first gen to have it, I learned that from hondata. I will keep everyone posted.

Hey NYNE, try to hook up the vtm wire to the middle plug of the ecu to the blue with black stripe.
I'll try this and then I'll let you know, I was told this yesterday!
