So today i went over to bgoetz's to help him with his window motor. After we fixed that, we went for a drive in his car, me being in the drivers seat, cuz i have an automatic and wanted to swap like did. So i got a feel for it and loved it. Anyways, after i drove it and had my fun, we went out and hot dogged it around a little. We did some 0-60 times for his car. It ended up being from 7.5-8.0 seconds (ON WINTER TIRES and a COLD road with ME in the car). My car as an automatic runs 10-11 seconds with JUST ME in the car. Well great so heres the first comparison:
manual - ~7.5 seconds
Auto - ~ 11 seconds
Great you say? Manual is better, thats it, the numbers say it all. Well, we went back to his place and picked up my car and took both out to the country side. Beautiful day, no traffic and we met up next to eachother.
First time i took off and he just burned out in 1st for like 2 seconds....then he caught up rather quickly and passed me. So we make another run, this time launching at the exact same time. He took off along with me and before he was in second, i was over back in the right lane, thats how far ahead he was. By the time we shut down, he was not car lengths but BUS lengths ahead of me. Probably about 7 bus lengths. I was floored the whole time. Well the manual has more mods you say? NO.
Manual - I/H/E
Auto -I/H/E
Thats is. For anyone who wonders what is better, quicker and more fun. The Manual is BY FAR. This is why i cant wait to swap this spring/summer. Just thought i'd share my thoughts and put this topic to a rest.

if someone didn't already realize that, they shouldn't be driving. i dont understand what "topic" you put to rest??

And in the end it was me who got OWNED by my own stupidity, because I could not figure out why my passengers power window would not work. I replaced the motor ($45) and it still did not work. Turns out the damn window lock was on. LOL

Hotrod thanks for this info. I wanted to know the numbers on a manual with a couple mods on there. my friend has a 95 rs 3.4 camaro and i need to have my manual civic beat it. i will be getting my civic this spring so hopefully after the break in period i will be able to take him.
awesome, i also have an auto civic cuz my parents were wingz and didnt let me get a manual..im also looking for a manual, but i think i will just save up a lil more and get an si motor with 5 speed, just for a lil more kick and well for the tranny..

-differenct mounts (for a k swap)
-shifter (not sure what shifter you would use)
-axles
-clutch pedal from a civic
-brake pedal from a civic
-master cylender from a civic
-you will also have to either get a different subframe (not sure from what possibly the Si) or mod your own subframe.
you will be looking at some serious $ you may just want to pay a bit more and get a type s engine

i was under the assumption that if you've posted here any amount of time or have ever driven both a manual and auto car, you know that there is a huge difference in terms of one being faster than the other. kinda like knowing that if you get mcdonald's coffee and spill it on yourself it's gonna be hot and burn you. but, whatever. i digress.

i dont know how they timed their 0-60 times, but the only accurate way to do it is to use a properly calibrated accelerometer, like a Gtech.
those old RS camaros aren't much of a challenge for a civic nowadays. the 95 RS was like a high 16 second car.
^^^yeah our 0-60s were not the most accurate LOL. First of all I had a extra passenger second I kept getting bad launches on my crappy tires. Third all that was used is a stop watch with hotrod watching the speedo (however this did not seem like a terrible method and would sat that it would be good to about a tenth of a second). BTW we did a couple of 15.5 second runs to see how fast I could get up to so we could try to get a very rough idea on 1/4 mile (due to the fact that the odometer only reads to the 10 of a mile do a time 1/4 would not be possible). My speed was between 84-86mph does anyone have a rough idea on what that would = in a 1/4. Keep in mind that this should not be taken very seriously and is in no way accurate. I am thinking 15.7-15.9 at around 88-90mph????
Also the more that I think about it I think that when you look at the speedo from the passengers seat it looks like you are going slower than you really are due to the angle. So this was a 4th grade science class way of determining anything
