Interesting Sunday
**edit: more pics in post #4 of the fire and post #5 of the show**
Well, today was Import Faceoff at San Antonioo Raceway, so we thought we'd make a showing.
Unfortunately we did not have a good day. On the way from Austin down to the track our EG hatch took a dump in the way that only a stock bottem end B16A with a sc61 at 15# can. It's held up fine for a long time, but finally the stress got to it.
Smoking EG hatch = dead hatch.
Then we get to the track, pull the EG coupe out of the trailer, get the slicks on, and start pulling towards tech... low and behold the crank pulley decides that now would be a good time to let us know that it's fed up with life, so it ***** the pulley bolt and starts throwing belts. Ok, back to the trailer we push it.
Peter warms up the Evo in it's debut run. Our own manifold (1Fab), Spearco frontmount, 3" charge piping, GT30R, 3" turbo-back exhaust, 50shot all controlled by an Autronic tuned in house by Peter.
Peter's first run, wheelspin in first, wheelspin in second, clutch slip in ALL gears all the way down the track. 13.1 ... times for a basically stock Evo. We're pissed. Just so you know this is an Exedy Twin-Plate. We figure it's time for a Tilton now.
Peter's second run, this time he hits the bottle. 13.7 . Clutch is GONE. Back to the pits.
A little surgery, some new parts, and an hour and a half later, everything is buttoned up again and ready to go again on the EG coupe.
First pass for FWD Quick 8. Matt forgot to reset the two-step after the pulley incident, gets scared when the revs jump to 8 grand and ends up sleeping at the light and gettign out at about 3 grand instead of the normal 5k. Then Matt misses the 2-3 shift. Twice. Third try, we have third gear. Awesome. Matt plays catch up the rest of the track.
We run 12.2 @ 122. With basically no launch, a bad gear miss, and a full second off of our normal E/Ts, the schmuck next to us who ran a 12.7 pulled a good light. Since this is bracket, despite E/T we're out of the first round beat by a slower car by .004 seconds. 4 THOUSANDTHS of a second.
Ok EG coupe goes back to the trailer to play with shift linkages and mope over being knocked out of class in the first race.
Matt's working on the coupe. Peter and I are bored, so I run the Daily.
2001 EX Sedan, full interior, low on gas, and those awesome Factory Firestones.

Sad day for Knife / 1Fab / SR when the only car making consistent passes is one of the daily drivers
.
Matt makes a few more passes in the coupe, but keeps letting off early since now we're overfueling badly for some reason, and there's no reason to push it when it's less than optimal.
Then, end of the day. Nothing having to do with us, but one of the other shops, DSR, has brought out a customer's 240sx out for testing/tuning.
SR20DET
TEC3
Topmount mani
good sized Front mount
What appeared to be a decent sized Garret
Nitrous
The only problem, they were over fueling all day long and couldn't get a clean pass. Back in the pits they get it where they think they want it, but the lanes are closing so instead of taking it out for a run they continue to tinker. Everyone is packing up and the car show going on in the front of the lot is winding down and DSR is setting up their two-step.
Unfortunately, the timing cut two-step causes backfire. This car is open downpipe. Too much time on the two-step causing heat, or maybe it wore through on something, but a fuel hose goes and the car goes up.

Finally water truck arrives, but it's too late.

Hooray for Import Faceoff. Today sucked for alot of people. I know the racing seemed to do well in the slower brakets, and since it was a big event we dawdled around to see who won what for the show portion, and watched a kid in a blue EP win the burnout contest by blowing a tire. All in all it was a frustrating day, but I guess now I really know how slow my Civic is.

sounds like life just took a big **** on you guys today
. I am sure that if you ran you dd a few more times you could get into the really low 16s high 15s, but it will never be comparable to the EVO or the hatch. God it has to feel slow as hell

God it has to feel slow as hellThing about SAR is they prep their track well, but if you are running an underpowered car, you bog too much since you can't just roll out on a light skitter in FWD, so you have to experiment with either spining or bogging.
Bogging got me 16.63 @ 84.43 or higher, so I went for spinning and came out on top.
You are completely right. This car is slow as hell
