exhaust sound?

kind of a weird question but when i wanted to run off the cat (vp) i took off my exhaust and wanted to see how it sounded like and if it felt different. I Didnt really like it so i put the two bolts on and connected the exhaust back on. Now whenever i rev up past 4000 or start in 1st it makes a weird loud rattle and i know its the bolts but i tightened them? Has this every happened to anyone? Any help would be great.

Do you have an upgraded rear sway? Maybe you didnt tighten the bolts tight enough and the springs are loose? Did you put the springs back on over the bolts?

Check to see if there are pebbles in the heat shield. When I had my 92 vic I had that exact problem...no noise when drivin easy or idling, but the moment I revved her up it started rattling. Maybe you got some debris in the heat shield when you removed the exhaust. Bad news is you may have to take it down again to find out.

It was not a good idea to drive around with your exhaust unbolted. Your car need some sort of back pressure to run correctly. You prolly didnt like the feel cause the car was slower and losing tons of power off the line due to 0 back pressure. Retorque all your bolts then if that dosent fix it, check the heat sheilds. You may have gotten something down in your exhaust pipe if you drove it around with the exhaust unbolted and just sitting there wide open. Good luck and i hope you fix the problem. Next time your going to take your exhaust off, dont even start your car, its not the best idea.

I thought this was a funny thread. I took my exhaust off, put it back on, now its rattling. First thing I woulda done if it rattled was redo everything. Good luck.

maybe that rattle is because your car is damn loud after removing the exhaust catback? the vibration of the loud notes comming out of your "cat" piece is probably it. i say jack up the car, have someone rev it a little and try to spot the problem.

rattle

besides quiting the exhaust part of the function of the exhaust is to route the heat away from the engine. While you were driving around with y oru exhaust unbolted there is a good chance you melted something and now it's loose. check fo rany rubber or plastic parts neer where the cat bolts up to the exhaust.
