Who would win?
Who do you guys think would win. A 300zx twin turbo with underdrive pulley down pipes and exhaust not cats a k&n aftermarket filter or a ls1 Camaro z28 with magnaflow hypertech and intake. Both are automatic i was just wondering cause those are the cars my friends have and they wont race for awhile but when they do i will fill you guys in.
What year ls1 is the z28, the 2001 and 2002 came with ls6 intake manifolds, that gave them just a little more umph stock and with mods. Overall, though if it is a stock turbo on the 300zx i say ls1 pulls on topend just barely.

I agree stock for stock the ls1 will kill the 300zx tt, but does exhuast and no cats not make much of a difference on those cars???? Those mods on an ls1 or lt1, and the car really livens up even though they are minor mods. Not real familiar with the effects mods have on a 300zx tt.
I would say the LS1 would win. I doubt the 300ZX can break into 13's with an auto tranny even though it's a twin turbo model. The 300ZX TT is more of a low 14's car. The LS1 is a mid 13's car with an auto tranny from I've seen at the track.
A Stock Twin Turbo 300zx puts out 300 horses even with the unorthodox pulleys and if the exhaust was a greddy evo 2 it would push about 380 and a auto runs a 14.1 stock were as the manual runs a 13.7 stock. A stock 1999 comaro Z28 puts out 305hp so with intake and exhaust it might make 350hp but the 300zx weights 100 pounds more so the race would be close but the Z28 would probably take him on the top end. My 300zx puts out the stock 224hp and I'm a manual and its estimated quarter is a 14.6. If it was the JDM Twin Turbo motor the 300zx would put out 410hp and would beat the Z28.

^^all that info was "if this and that, and if this and that". lol. where in there does it relate to the actual race?
bottom line is both cars probably have similar hp gaining mods from what he's stated.
and a 13.1 stock vs about a 13.9 stock. that's the bottom line.

I said the camaro would win but there is not enough info to say for sure that it would. Those pulleys add 60hp on a twin turbo so the horsepower would be to the advantage of the 300zx but I Know how a Ls1 pulls when it gets in top end. All I was saying was that it wouldn't be easy for the Z28.

s2000man01 i respect you alot on this site but where are you getting a stock time of 13.1 on a ls1 z28 auto? i have alot of friends with F-Bodies, and a stock 13.1 is far from true. The guys with ayto LS1's are running consistant 13.6 quarter times with their auto's on in a 01 z28 and one in a 00 ws6. and my sisters boyfriend has a 02 CE WS6 5-speed and he is running 13.3 on a bone stock car, fastest was a 13.316. i used to be huge into GM F-Bodies, but i still think the LS1 car would win.

either way, the car is capable of about a 13.1 with an auto. even if the guy doesn't launch the best, he'll still pull all day long.
some have even dipped into 12.9's stock with the manual transmission. the auto is barely behind it. just cuz your friends can't do it, doesn't mean it's the car's fault.

Being the former owner of a 2001 LS1 formula 6 speed Id favor an ls1 over the 300zx because I beat a mildly modded one fairly easy. I used to walk all over lt1 cars every night of the week so I bet that would be a drivers race. anyways im spooling a 4 banger now and I couldnt be happier. Doing more with less is more rewarding for me.
02fpcivic, I understand the potential and out of the box performance advantage the ls1 has over the lt1, and definitely a superior car but I don't know about walking all over Lt1 cars unless you are goin to extremely high speeds. 0-80 mph the LT1 is fairly even with a Ls1, it is here the superior flow of the Ls1 heads become too much for the Lt1 on the top end. I agree though, I think it will be a drivers race.

I dunno. seemed to me like when I race an LT1 I stay very even with them, and begin to pull arond 70mph.
but if I race an LS1, I stay a little even but they pull hard from about 50 on up.
