I was browsing through the Japanese Honda site and found the Civic with the 1.7 litre engine and it had the shifters as small paddles behind the steering wheel and it was a 7 speed...7! ok, wtf??

Rep Power: 0 Well I think what they did was change the entire gear ratio of it. Because if that virtual thing is correct at 100 mph he was running like 3500 rpms in 7th gear so I bet you that the first gear winds out really quickly.

Rep Power: 0 If i am not mistaken that transmission is a CVT simulating shifts. They have it in some of their latest Vans and smaller vehicles. (Japanese Versions) If you don't press the "7 speed mode" button it works just like a normal CVT.

Rep Power: 0 no thats like a special gearbox that comes in the EP2 civic equiped with AWD as well.
this gearbox uses 7 gears that work as a triptonic tranny you can have the car change them automatically or u can change them yourself. its like a version of the CVT transmission designed so you dont feel the gear changes it is new technology that japan automakers are coming with and we probably wont see any car with that unitil the next decade if so.
if u are wondering about how i know this, i saw the web site and i had my friend read it for me
