Bent Valve
Yup. Just got word back from Honda. Bent Valve in the No. 4 Cylinder.
It's not enough that the tensioner on the timing belt went at only 55k miles, but it did this too.
I thought our cars were supposed to be reliable?
BTW I got a 01 EX Sedan.

Welcome to the world of interference engines. Meaning if the valves are not correctly timed they can hit the pistons.
Actually a failed tensioner is not the norm. But this is why you have to replace the belt, tensioner, and water pump before 110,000 miles. And previous Hondas had to be done at 60,000, so the newer models are more reliable. But in a million plus cars, some driven harder than others, a Civic will fail here and there.

I've seen a timing belt fail at 10k! It's just bad luck. Usually they last at least 90k and more. Driving has nothing to do with it. Sometimes a part is just weak or flawed to begin with. I change my own timing belt, but ONLY use original Honda timing belt and tensioner. Yes, they last longer than aftermarket.

^Yuck. What would happen if, hypothetically speaking of course, I kept on trying to start the engine after it stalled........?
I'm crossing my fingers on this one...

well without the timing belt moving the cams your open valves would be killed by your pistons. your pistons would be killed by your shredded valves. The mangled metal getting tossed in the cylinder could shred the walls. a valve could break a rocker, mar a cam.
basically your whole engine would be toast.
now if you did keep trying to start your engine I would have the ENTIRE system insepcted for mars and metal bits.
worst case scenario you would have to get a new motor...
on the plus side you could get a swap done for the price of your stock motor sometimes.
