how to retrieve a screw that fell into front vent holes

Hi,

I was getting ready to screw on the last screw on my door panel when it fell out of my hand and bounced onto the dash, then rolled down to one of the holes of the defog vents. How can I get access to retrieve it? I was thinking of taping a magnet to the end of a thin rod and sticking it down there but don't know if it'll work 'cuz the holes are so close to the windshield I'd have to go down in an angle... I really need to get it out 'cuz when I used the defog today there was a weird smell...

any help appreciated, thanks

you can also stick a magnet to a screwdriver and it will magnatize the whole thing that should get it out.

Actually, tie a small magnet to a string. Then you can drop it in there and hopefully pull the screw back out.

Link to DYI dash removal. Oh well, it seems like the attached pictures are not working.

Lol, forget it. You need to take the dash apart for that one. I've lost so many screws, mostly in the engine bay tho.
