Heads Up Displays (HUD's)
What do people think about heads up displays? I think they are sweet, and I really wish more cars had them. I exerpienced it when I learned to drive in a 90's grand prix. The industry doesn't seem to think people like them. Are they right?
Also, whats with the trend of simplification in the cockpit? I love buttons, *****, etc. The more the better. Am I the only one who thinks a car's dash should look like the cockpit of an F-16?
Just want to hear some other people's thoughts on this

if i was 100 percent sure what the hell an hud is exactly id respond on that but as for the buttons thin... i like cool gadgets and **** to screw with but as long as they look sleek and sexy not big bulky and in the way i wouldnt care how many
a HUD projects your speed or other info onto your windshield. it looks like its floating obove the hood of your car. i havent really driven with one so i dont know if id find it annoying or not! as for the *****. the fewer the better i like a niceclean look!! hey IMO

I never found it annoying at all. You can adjust the intensity. It just looks like a colored reflection on your windshield. You can see right through it. You never have to look down at your guages because its right in your field of view.
Hell Yeah I have been wanting to convert my entire guage cluster to HUD for a long time, i was in an Attack Helicopter Company in the Army in Desert Storm. I also like attitude indicators, airspeed indicators, and lots of switched and *****.

Yeah I dont see why anyone wouldnt like the hud's, the corvette one is awesome. I would love to have one of these on our civics. I think grey needs to hit up this diy. hehe should'nt be too hard. The buttons thins yeah I enjoy buttons cause that also means you have more options to adjust and play with. Which brings me back to the corvettes all the options and computer things they can do are just awesome, even just the info the computer gives you is crazy.

To be honest...that looks kind of crappy. If you have ever seen a stock setup you will know what I mean. I wouldn't be sticking that thing on my dash.

I have seen the GM HUDs. If I were to go with the Defi unit. It would be custom installed into the dash. Make it look OEM. I saw another HUD that was cool. It actually displayed an anolog tach and boost gauge. I'm trying to find the link right now
hah, well i take my eyes off the road for like a long azz time yo, i have to keep changing cds and they are all in my glove
not to worry, i usually do this when i am going straight and no cars are in front of me to brake. but cool nonetheless. and i agree, they should be like in the dash to look like its not even there.

When the vehicle comes with it from the factory you don't even notice it. Its built right into the dash above the gauge cluster. I hear ya on the cd's.

You can see it in the vette:

Nothing sticks out above the dash. Just a small cutout for the lens/reflector. Totally sweet.

I'm not a huge vette fan or anything, its just one of few cars that implement a HUD.

I like it....
It's an evolution of what they used to do, which was put all the stuff outside and on top of the hood.
Yeah, I'd want it stock too so the dash doesn't look funky.

When I do this mod I will be cutting a rectangle shape out of the dash and I will be using a peice of lightly tinted plexiglass to make it look ultra clean and OEM. Should look pretty good.
