Exclamation Transmission Slip

I got an 02 ex and i think my transmission is slipping at certain rpms and it doesnt even do it all the time, only when i accelerate slowly. does anyone know what may cause this. my only mods are intake and headers.

is it when the engine is warm or cold? Do you do any N drops? D3 to D shift?

Wait... do you have an Automatic or Manual tranny?

If you have a Manual... your clutch is toast. Go get it replaced.

If you have an Auto... take your car to the dealership and have them service it. Your warranty should cover it.

I have the same problem... usually after having to slow down for some idiot that doesn't know how to drive in front of me then accelerating again. I will notice a :THUNK: when it down shifts from 2-1. I'm not sure what the cause is. It has bugged me for awhile now... I just feather the gas after having to brake like that now.

Suggestion: Get a fluid change first. Look for excessive metal in the fluid. There will always be SOME. If the fluid seems normal, fresh fluid may cure it. If it has a lot of metal in it..... well, the tranny could be on it's way out.

yep that is bad syncros or many other possible problems at work. A short shifter does nothing but shorten what you have up

question.. what exactly does a slipping tranny sound like? I've been boosting my auto around 4psi, and sometimes when going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, if i don't release the gas at the shift point, the RPMs will quickly spike to about 5k then it shifts after half a second. there isn't any kind of jerking or grinding, just a rev then a smooth shift. this only happens with those 2 gears, and only if I am at or above 3k RPM, or 2-3psi+ when the car shifts. this started (or at least i first noticed it) about 2 weeks after i started boosting, but lately it doesn't seem to happen as often, if at all. maybe it fixed itself?

Well unless the rpms are actually revving up before it shifts, you should be fine. If that's happening, usually one day it just won't go into gear anymore.

Yes, typically in all automobiles when you have a spike in RPMs between gear changes in an automatic transmission then yes it is slipping.

SMX is on a distinguished road
It's all in how the trans is programmed to shift. They come from the factory with a relatively smooth shift 'cause that's what most folks want. My c-6 is highly tweaked and shifts like a ton of bricks, no pause, just instant shift with a bang and tire chirp.

In your case, the extra power is stressing the trans and the bands don't sound like they are holding like they should during the shift. You might try swapping your tranny fluid for some Redline. That may tighten it up enough. If not, you need to take it to someone that knows how to tune honda transmissions.

I had that problem exactly, had to take a tech with me and drive around to prove it though... Honda Warrantyed the work, Replaced the 2nd and 5 gears + synchros.

This happens to me as well. i have a 2001 EX coupe Auto. This feels to be the case mostly if the engine is cold. But i plan on changing the ATF again soon. I changed it once already with Mobile 1 at around 20,000 miles. I hope it fixes itself.

hey man i strongly reccomend going to honda and getting their ATF-Z1 oil, i've heard horor stories of aftermarket transmission oil. motor oil is one thing but the tranny is a whole diff. story. it is a tad pricey though i just got mine for 4.16 an quart i think.
