Is it possible/worth it? (gauge cluster question)
I currently have a 2001 manual sedan, and locally I found a wrecked 2003 auto sedan and grabbed the cluster, the wiring process (01>03)I am not worried about but I have two basic questions, will the auto cluster work on a manual, and do you think its worth the effort covering up the icons?

it should work, but if your civic does not have ABS, and the guage cluster came out of a civic that had ABS. Then the ABS light will stay lit up when you install it.

Then you just pull/destroy the abs bulb. No more light
I wouldn't do the swap, but I'm very particular about that. Check to make sure the tach is the same. I remember in the older gauges, they were different for auto and manual.

Are the sendin unit even the same, considering the auto have what gear you are in and all that where in the manual the last part of the tack is? Seems to me the auto might have a couple fo extra pins to do this. Knwoing Honda though, the auto manual probably has the pins for that gear lights, but they are just duds. Not sure about that?

what he was saying is that
it might read 4000 rpm, but the way it displays it could be different. For example, it could read 4000 rpm and display it by moving the needle 80 degrees from 0 RPM. If it did it this way then the guage would be off if the spacing of the numbers were different.
Although I think this shouldn't be a problem

Not a problem if you don't care what rpm you're at, which makes the tach useless. I know for sure this is the case with 01-02 clusters. That's why there are indiglo faces that are different for each one (auto/manual).

Okay, it's true for the newer gauges as well.
This is from a manual. The rpm band goes all the way around the dial almost.

This is an auto. The rpm band stops near the top of the gauge. See where the 8 is at the top instead of the bottom? It won't work.

All you have to do to make the ABS light go out is to ground the wire. I am actually using the ABS light as an overdrive indicator.
I don't see why the rpm would read incorrectly. The cluster cpu processes the frequency and duration of the speed pulse rate info coming from the ecu. I imagine either the cpu output is calibrated to its internal tach, or if the cpu output is the same, the sweep would be determined by different drive coils. The result should be an accurate tach readin with either cluster.
