Difference between EP3 and DC-5 Coilovers?

Hi! Sorry, but I couldn't find the exact answer I need... Well I was wondering what's the difference between EP3 and DC-5 Coilovers? I will be getting some coilovers for my 7th Gen Civic and I want to know if there's a difference before I buy them... I know the EP3 Coilovers you have to get a different bolt or bore out the holes on the rear suspension upper mounts to make it fit on the EM2 Civics.

So would I have to do the same thing for the DC-5 Coilovers? Cause the coilovers I'm getting seems to only be for the DC-5 and not the EP3.

Thanks!

BTW, I'm getting the T1R Type-G Coilovers when they come out in the Fall... http://www.aj-racing.com/product.php...on&company=T1R

short and sweet. there will be alot more modifying and misc parts, that you will need to buy with the dc5 coilovers then the ep3 coilovers.

on a side note there is really no reason to get ep3 coilovers or dc5 coilovers. unless your getting spoon, mugen, or JIC. otherwise than that most companys make a coilover that fits our cars. i dunno kinda of my pet peeve.

those are gonna be like $2500 coils. spring rates are odd. Generally, for FWD you need LESS rate in the front and MORE rate in the rear. Those have 8k front and 6k rear. Stock JICs come with more than that (9k/10k). boilermaker is currently running 8k front and 10k rear on his and likes the way the car handles now. Plus, unless you plan on doing some hardcore racing, 32 way adjustable coils is way too much. It will take you a year just to figure out the best settings. You will also have to buy new tie rods and the mount bolts on the DC5 and civic are different. I would stick to finding good EP3 coils. The Tie rod bolt and the mount bolts are the major differences between the EP3, DC5 and EM/ES suspensions.

I want these cause of the features they have... I know they're gonna be expensive, but they're cheaper than the Buddy Club.

And also, I thought if you have 8k in the front and 10k in the rear, wouldn't that make you oversteer? Cause the engine in the front will make it front end heavy.

So there is a difference in the DC5 and EP3 coilovers? For DC5 I need new Tie rods and bolts? And the EP3 I need the bolts?

Thanks!

Its actually like 7.4K/10K, Rob.
Yes it starts to bias the car towards oversteer, but thats the point. Front wheel drive is an understeering pig by nature. So you need to correct it. Softer springs in the front make the car dig in, making the rear end "lighter" so it comes around. RSX coils need a couple things, you need to grind down the brackets in the rear, new crash bolts and tie rod ends in the front.
EP3 coils should bolt right in... although it depends what model year they're made for. Early ones have 14mm crash bolts, the later ones have 16s.
Honestly there's no need for them unless you got a use for camber plates and super adjustability. And I would not be rocking 12K springs on the street.

I plan to run my car on the track later, so I might end up using the adjustability...

Also, I have a 01 Civic, so I guess I have the 14mm bolts... So I guess I need the bigger ones to make the EP3 coilovers fit.

Thanks!

No EP3 one should bolt right in unless they changed the mount bolt size. I would seriously consider asking for different spring rates. Talk to a few of the track guys about that. If you plan on dropping in a new engine, that will change everything.

Well actually, I do want to do the K20A swap into my car later... And I'll also ask them if they can make the EP3 version of the coilovers if they're not already planning to...

The T1R coilovers are just in they testing phase right now. I"m sure they know what they're doing with the spring rates... I doubt it's certain the spring rates are going to be that. A&J Racing is a North American Distributor for Spoon... So I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Thanks!

Yeah they do know what they are doing with the spring rates for a car that is a hatch and has a heavier engine. All I am telling you is that the vehicle dynamics are different for the DC5 EP3 and EM/ES. I am also trying to tell you not to drop $2500+ on a set of coils that may cause crappy handling.

Well they don't come out til Fall next year... So I'm not getting now even if I wanted to...

But I'm just wondering why Zeal would make coilovers for coupes where the front has higher spring rates than the rear. Go check it out for yourself http://www.endlessusa.com/products/index.php?id=3. The Civics and Accords all have higher spring rates in the front...

We are not saying they don't know what they are doing, but they are making coils for hardcore racers, not daily driving. We aren't telling you not to get them, just some of our thoughts. Also, don't expect those coils to be out next fall...i would predict 2006 if you are lucky...companies are always delayed.
