an answer to S2k vs civic with short ram, etc
Well I have a friend with a 7th gen who has short ram, exhaust, header, and some weight reduction. He removed his backseat to put in a custom sub box, but for our race, he was gracious enough to take it out for me. He also has no spare, removed some of the interior crap in the back, etc. If I forget anything, maybe he can sign up for 7thgencivic.com and post for me. (thanks for the race nick)
So.... to answer mr. aznchnksta or whatever his name is, who thinks he can outrace an S2000 just cuz he weighs less (which he probably doesn't weigh less anyways)
Beyond that fact lets consider that your civic is a 5 speed, with nowhere NEAR the agressive gearing the 6 speed S2000 has, plus the fact that the S2000's 240hp overshadows the 127hp your car makes.
Not to mention a stock S2000 can run 13.6-13.7 at best, where a stock civic can maybe get 15.7-15.8 at best.
So onto the race. We raced a full 1/4 mile first on an empty 2 lane road (2 lanes both ways, so he wasn't in oncoming). By the 1/4 mile mark, I can't even begin to measure the distance I had on him. If I had to guess I'd say at least 15 buslengths, but at that distance, how can you even tell.
So we ran again from just a 0-60 dig, no launch for me. He got a jump because he launched, but by 40 I had passed him like he was parked, and by 60 I had probably 3 buslengths on him.
So aznchnksta, you did not beat a celica gts or an rsx-s, because you were the only one racing in that race my friend. And as for you beating an S2000? Well you have as much a chance of that as john kerry still has a chance of becoming president.

, no stock civic ex (that includes full interior and spare tire) is running that... not even a pro driver can knock that. If you noticed the ex drivers that have have dipped into the high 15's have some sort of intake or exhaust or headers and a **** load of weight reduction, that makes them modded.
Anyways, good obvious kill.

arith, i wasn't sure if those times were modded or not, but i do think some civics have hit 15's stock. regardless the .1 or .2 tenths of a second won't matter in the race i'm talking about.

What if all of sudden the race direction changed and you started racing backwards, then the Civic would actually be in front by a large distance. Like he said NO MATTER WHAT.

Dudes dudes dudes the civic was winning whether you realized or not. He was either ahead for a instance of time, and the civic is taller so automatically it wins.

#2 it will take more than an RSX-S engine swap into a civic to make it faster than an S2000. you have much to learn my young paduan. if an RSX-s hits 14.8 or so at best stock, swapping it into a civic thus making it an RSX-S minus 200lbs, does not a 13.7 second car make.
fun fact for the day.....
Did you know an S2000 engine only weighs 326 pounds? (yes it's lighter than a civic engine)

i know a b18c weighs about 340, and an h22 weighs 360. the k20 also weighs in around 350.
so im guessing all those weights are with the transmission, because there's no way a D17 would only weigh 190 if all those other engines weighed 340+.

exactly, my shipping weight on on my d17a2 was 195lbs. With intake manifold and exhaust manifold, wiring and even the stock air box. d17 is tiny!

I know what happened here. The civic had a full tank or gas and the s2k was almost on empty. That s2k of yours isn't that much faster.
Well there is a member here that has been high 15s and I think his car is stock other than tons of weight reduction and wheels.

How could Honda's strongest block be lighter than the 1.7 L D17a2? On top of that civic is quite a bit lighter than an s2000. I know thats not only cause of engine weight, but you can see where I'm going with this.

the S2000 has a distributorless ignition system, and the engine has more forged aluminum parts which are lighter than the steel parts in the D17. remember the S2000 was designed to save weight. even it's convertible top motor is the lightest on the market. the size of the engine is even the same as the B18, even though it's a 2.0 liter.
the old B16 civic engine weighed in at around 318lbs. (again these are all with tranny i'm assuming) A B18 weighs 340lbs, and an H22 weighs 360lbs.
so it's not all that improbable that the D17 weighs 195lbs, but add the weight of the tranny (which is what all these weights are including) and from what i've seen/heard, the D17 weighs in around 336lbs. at least that's the lowest weight i've been able to google on the D17.
as for the weight of the S2000 vs civic. it's not surprising the civic weighs less overall. remember the S2000 was also built much differently structure-wise. it has a reinforced high x-bone steel frame, as well as reinforced a-pillar and roll bars. it's made to withstand a crash flipping over even at 55+ mph. there's where the extra weight is. in the frame and structure of the car, for rigidity, handling, and safety. the S2000, even though it's a convertible, has more torsional rigidity in it's frame than that of a civic or most other cars. which is unheard of for a convertible.
