springs with stock shocks?
springs with stock shocks?
heylo all .
i have owned 3 different cars . and have alwaz altered factory springs to make then small (2.5" drop). but all my rides have been really bad! . road back here are really bad with big holes and bumps every where .
now i plan to sell my 2004 civic and get a 2005. now my question is
1) wat if i get branded springs from a repectfull company ? will my ride be as rough as wat currently i have?
2) if i alter the springs , wat should b the max drop which would give me more comfy ride? currently i have been dropping them 2.5 " .
thanx

read the FAQ
Springs aren't the only determinate of a comfy ride. Your ride quality on your past cars has been shity because 1) you altered stock springs and 2) you didn't get better shocks. Anytime you lower you will lose ride quality. Do not alter you stock springs by cutting or heating because that can be very dangerous. You can go as low you as want, but I don't suggest going lower than 1" on stock shocks. You need to get better shocks. Even if they are brand springs, the ride will still be shitty on stock shocks and you run the risk of blowing them. Before you do anything, research! Suspension keeps your car on the road. You fvck with it the wrong way, you can end up in a ditch or wrapped around a light pole. Either do it the right way or don't do it at all.

Robbclark has it right...
I'd say that you've ran in to 3 things on your privious cars..
1. Soft spring rates (Cut OEM springs) and a low ride height = Bottoming out alot = Poor ride quality and Handling issues.
2. Too Low of a ride height = poor suspension geometry = Poor ride and handling Characteristics.
3. OEM shocks on a lowered car = Blown shocks = Poor ride quality and Handling Issues.
So, what this tells you is A. the lower you drop the car, the higher the spring rates neede to stop the car from bottoming out. B. There is very much a thing as too low. and C. Most cars come from the factory Under dampend, as it makes for a softer ride. take those soft shocks and make them work in a range they werent designed to = blown or weaker shocks.
So what you need Is a decent spring rate and some good shocks.
