Exhaust rattle.....suggestions?
Hopefully this is a valid question, here goes:
I have lately been experiencing a very bad rattling noise coming from my exhaust that started and has gotten alot worse the colder it seems to get...however even when it was warm I heard it slightly (I HATE NOISES, NO MATTER HOW SMALL) I jacked the car up and was looking underneath...
I noticed that it seems to be possibly rattling the heat shields that are above sections of the exhaust...Im not 100% sure because the car is off obviousy when Im under the car...but Im wondering how important these heat shield pieces are...If it'll take away the noise and wont cause any harm...Im gonna do it...suggestions?

if theres a way u can heat the pipe up, heat up the area where its rattling and then use a pry bar (cro bar) and bend the pipe down a lil off the heat shield, i had the same pob and fixed it by doin this

Don't be a wuss, Climb under the car and have some one mash the gas.
j/k
But it would help to have someone run the engine a little while your looking for the rattle, unless you have an exhaust leak, it's very unlikely to be harmful.
If it is the heatshields you should secure the heatsheilds rather than take them off.
I haven't actually looked at the heat sheilds, but if it's not just a matter or re-tightening some bolts, then use some epoxy to secure them to the underbody of the car.

well new update...I took all heat shields off and that seemed to fix the problem with the exhaust rattle....however I still have a banging sort of noise coming from my passenger side front wheel well area (sounds like its coming from there) I checked the exhaust and it didnt seem to be banging against anything but I'll check again when I get off work....

No not difficult...there is I believe 2 or 3 on the bottom of the car...10mm socket should do the trick...I figured out that my major problem wasnt the heat shields though...the exhaust was banging on the underneath of my car.... Im still trying to come up with a solution...because everywhere I go they cannot get my car on a rack to work on it because of the drop.....hmmm...

Okay so I've figured out the the center portion of my exhaust is causing the banging noise when driving...it appears to be banging up to a piece of the under part of the car that it sits really close to (hard to explain) but I was going to attempt to put something in between the pipe and the part its hitting but cannot come up with anything...would a piece of thick rubber such as an exhaust rubber mount work to keep it from knocking? anyone else tried this or had a similar situation?

my exhaust was hitting the sway bar sometimes and I took some of that exhaust wrap from autozone or advanced or pep boys and wrapped it with that. Seemed to work for me
