Yeah so... car won't start (video)
Got home around 2 am last night, it was snowing really bad. I always make sure I turn everything off before I get out, like lights and whatnot, so that reason is eliminated. Went to turn the car on this morning, turned it to ON for a few seconds, then turned the key, and it kept making the sound of trying to start, but never turned over. I don't know if it was because it was really cold last night. I wouldn't think that the battery or starter would be dead already, it's not even a year old!

New battery and new plugs would really be all you can do in your case. I have an optima yellow and ngk iridium plugs. My car mostly starts in three cranks all the time when it's way below freezing.

My buddy just came over, and we tried to jump it, but this had no effect. It gave us a glimmer of hope for a split second when I tried to turn it over and it was trying, but then proceeded to do the same thing again
Anyways, here is a link to a video I made of what it is doing. It's only 1.25 MB, so please view it and let me know what you think it may be

I'm going to have it towed to Acura tomorrow, maybe they can figure out what's wrong with it

Another friend of mine suggested it may be the teeth on the starter skipping? Anyone have an opinion on that theory?

try this:
-Turn the key once so all the electric kicks in
-Put the shifter in nuetral
-Try to start it
i'm saying this because my old car had a little starting problem and when i put it in nuetral it started so maybe give it a shot at least.... wont hurt.

Byebye starter! It's definately NOT the battery. Do yourself a favor and just look at the plugs to see if one isn't bent or broken. I've heard that before on my old car, and the starter turned out to be busted. Thanks for the vid, those gauges look cool

What would have caused this? Like I said, last night it hesitated a little bit starting, but I thought it was just because it was cold out.
*EDIT* ANOTHER one of my friends is coming down to check out the spark plugs, like you suggested, so I'll get back to you guys, thanks!

hey, my friend's car had the exact same sound come out of it a few months ago and we did a bunch of tests and found out that the battery was defective and that there may have been a problem with the alternator and he had both replaced and the problem went away. Do you have a sound system in ur car?

hmmm... well u said when u had ur friend give u a jump start, it sounded like it had a chance of starting?? did u make sure the connections were on properly? cuz if it did have a chance of starting for even a split second (gave a different sound instead of that weird clicking sound) it might just be a messed up battery..
Yep, we tried them again and again with the same result as in the video, I guess it was just a fluke that it almost started the first time...

I sent my friend the video who knows stuff about cars and he said this. I'm copy and pasting:
"sounds like a weak battery. not enough juice to power the starter motor. that sound is the strter solenoid engaging and disengaging as soon as it tries to crank. once it makes contact all there isnt enough power to keep it in position and crank"
dont know if its right or wrong but this is his opinion

Granted this was only a month after we got the car, so the battery may have gone down hill since then.

Well so far two of us have said the starter. I know it's not the battery because on Hondas, the starter will click repeatedly with a dead or weak battery. That's not the sound his is making. That sounds like a broken starter noise. Now I'm guessing your car is under warranty, so none of this should be a problem. You could get a free battery and charging system test at kragen or advance auto parts just to rule out the battery. Then you know it's the starter. Did your friend check the plugs?
Remember, for a car to start you need air, fuel, and spark. You're not getting spark, and that's either bad plugs, battery, or starter most likely.
Wow your car got owned by snow. At a certain low temp, the electrolyte in the battery could freeze. Jump starting a frozen battery will kill it.

My friend never did stop by to check the plugs. We're going to have to get it towed to Acura to have the warranty work done on it anyway, when I find something out I'll post back.
Thanks everyone
My friend was saying that it doesnt mean that the battery is dead. He told me that the battery might not have enough juice to power the starter motor. The battery still has a charge and all enough to power the windows and all the other junk but doesnt have enough power left to crank the starter up.
thats what I think it is too.. But I'm probably wrong.. whenever my friends pump their systems or whatever for too long and try to start the car.. it makes that sound.. even though the lights, windows and all are fine..
I know your battery is not old at all but it may just be a defective one?

The starter solenoid just bounces because there is not enough CURRENT to keep it latched. Check the battery. In some rare cases it IS the starter, but most often the battery. If the starter has a shorted winding, it will do this as well.

i watched your video and heard that familiar sound...i dreaded it when i first heard it too .... it just means your battery is reallllllly low ... obviously not dead cus some lights came on but not enough juice to crank it. i had to use jumper pack then let car run for an hour or so and it was fine after that
edit: sry didnt read previous posts ^^
