Stock CD Player - won't play CDs
Stock CD Player - won't play CDs
General question - My '02 Civic LX didn't come with a CD player so I bought a used one. It plays CDs you buy but will not play CDs that I've burned off my computer. Is this a common problem, an older CD player, or just a problem with my CD player??

You're using a cd with .wav files and not .mp3s, right?
You know, my stock cd player would play cd's that I burned on my old computer but not on my new computer.
Some things you may want to try which have made a difference for some people (I read these suggestions on the internet), but they didn't work for me:
1. Try using 74 minute cds instead of 80 minute cds (if you have any laying around, since you can't really find 74 minute cds in any stores anymore).
2. Try burning them at 4x speed instead of faster
3. Try using blue cds (some people said different colors affect reflective properties or something)
And be sure to try your burnt cds on other stereos to make sure that they will play at all. Cuz if it won't play anywhere then it's probably a problem with your cd and not with your cd player.
And finally, strangely enough, the cds that were burned on my new computer that wouldn't play in my stock deck (it would say error and spit them back out), would sometimes work if I kept putting them back in. So it would be like put cd in, it gets spit out, put it right back in, spat out, put it right back in, spat out, etc., and then once it just started playing and I was like
! I found it took 5-10 consecutive tries before it would play for sure. Another thing you might want to try is trying to seek through tracks while it is loading. So while it's first reading the cd, skip foward and back a few tracks. Sometimes this might fool the cd player into skipping the beginning and starting on a different track. I've seen people use this technique successfully on home cd players before (I think) so it's worth a try.
Just out of curiousity, how much did you pay for a used stock cd player?

They play on other CD players including my '01 Chevy Impala...this is the only player that won't work. I paid $100 for the CD player installed...seemed reasonable at the time, but not sure now. I'll try your suggestions and see what happens. Thanks.
I believe burn speed has ALOT to do with this issue. I had the stock cd player in my '01 for close to a month before I did my aftermarket install in July '03 and noticed issues with CD-R's right away. Try burning at 1x (yes it's painfully slow) to see if that helps. Stock won't even read an MP3 disc..
The stock CD player isn't designed to play MP3s, that's why it doesn't lol. Try burning at slower speeds and using differents types of CDs. If it still doesn't work, I'll sell you the OEM CD off an 04. It read all the CDs I put in it.

But as I said, CDs burned on my old computer (@ 4x max) played find on the stock plaer, and CDs burned on my new computer (anywhere from 4-48x) wouldn't play, unless you kept putting them in every time they got spat out.
Does your cd player play store bought CDs? At leat if it plays those it's not borken, although it would be annoying if it didn't play burned CDs, too.

i dont see why it shouldnt read...i think you got jipped by the seller
i tried the cheapest junk 80min media and it works fine on the stock deck....i always burn audio cds at 12x or faster...the stock deck doesnt skip...
the stock deck doesnt read CD-RW's though. i think it even says that in the manual...
