Pics of my audio stuff (added amp pic)
I just took these pics. I don't have anything fancy like some people do. Just a regular setup.
12" Alpine Type E sub in box in trunk:

Closeup of the sub:

Pioneer Premier DEH-p860MP Deck showing track info (the display didn't really show up well)

Deck showing a fish/ocean movie:

I forgot to take a picture of the amp, which is on the back of the sub box.

Yeah, it's pretty basic, but not bad at all. We all start somewhere, and at least its not all ghettoed out like some. Where's the pic of your amps? That will give me a better idea of the quality of work.

It sounds awesome right now so I'm probably going to leave it as it is. I have good SQ at reasonable volumes which is what I want. I didn't feel the need to spend the money for custom enclosures or anything awesome looking like some members have cuz I'm never going to be in shows or anything. Function over form.

Ok, here's the amp. This pic with the right rear seat down, looking at the back of the box. In the lower right hand corner you can see part of my rear upper strut bar.

It's an MTX MXA-3002 (I think that's the model number). It's not a bass amp per se, seeing as how it's a two channel amp, but bridged it makes 300 watts rms (my sub is 200 rms), and it has gain, bass boost, high pass, low pass, and full range options, and a crossover control, and it was only $150 which was the cheapest 200-300 watt rms amp I saw, plus I heard that MTX was a good company (unlike, say, Sony or Audiobahn). The only thing I wish it had was a subsonic filter, but since it's not specifically a sub amp I understand why it doesn't.
The black cord you see coming off the top and going toward the camera is for my remote bass gain **** that I have sitting in the console between the two front seats right now because I haven't decided where I'm going to mount it yet. I was thinking about mounting it in one of those spaces next to the cigarette lighter. What do you think?
No DIY. I had Circuit City do it. But I gave them specific instructions on where to put everything, like where to put the sub so it only blocks the 1/3 foldown seat and not the 2/3 side, and to mount it somehow so it wouldn't move around (the method of mounting was something he came up with, tho. I liked it), etc.

PS. I like having my cds free like that
Sure, sometimes they rattle around, but most of them are burnt so it's not the end of the world if I scratch one, and access to them is so easy when they're like that.

My cds are so messed up from putting em in the case together. Looks like someone dipped em in water and rubbed all over the floor. I can't believe most of em play.

BTW mounting the amp to the sub box CAN be a bad idea. I've had mine mounted to the same box before and it was a monthly thing to pull the amp apart and see what broke inside from the vibrations. Granted that was when i had it mounted to a box with 4 15's in it

You know how can get one of those flea-market bass amps 3000watts for $8.50? They fall apart. Being that the nature of amplifiers is to well, create vibration, even decently well built amps are designed to handle a vibrating environment. If you wouldn't mount your amp to the back of your box, where would you mount it to that would be vibration free? I have never seen problems resulting from the placement of amps against a box. Granted that your 4 15s do have the potential for a ton of vibrations, but I don't think mounting the amp anywhere else is going to free it from vibration, except for maybe putting outside on a sound-deadened roof.

To answer your questions about SQ...
Keep in mind that the only subs I can compare it to are the ones they sell at Circuit City and Tweeter, because those are the only ones I've heard. Does it sound as tight as a $400 sub? No. Does it sound better than the cheaper ones at Circuit City? Yes. I'm pretty picky about how my stuff sounds and I think it sounds good. Now people are going to jump in and be like "whatever your setup sucks" because they spent $5000 on theirs and yeah, theirs probably sounds better, but I have no complaints with mine at all.
As for it not being loud enough, it's plenty loud for me. You can definately hear it even tho it's in the trunk. I haven't measured decibels (yet), but for goldenkidx who asked about shaking mirrors, yes, if I listen to the right song, even at fairly low volumes it renders my rearview mirror kind of useless. Hehe. When the bass hits it vibrates and all the cars in it get blurry.
I think the recommended box size for the 12" Alpine Type E is 0.7-1.70ft^3. I have mine in a sealed 1.00ft^3 box, and I would recommend that if you're looking for SQ. If you just want SPL I can't help you there. I picked a 1.00 box cuz it was readily available and toward the smaller end of the recommended box sizes, and I got a sealed box because that's what people recommended I should get for SQ with my equipment.
Ok, it was the cheapest, most powerful amp I had seen. I've never heard of Soundstream. At any rate, 400rms would be too much. My sub is 200rms and my amp is 300rms so that's already a bit too much anyway.
