Sony
Sony
Hey, I just bought a sony yesterday, CDX-F7705x, but ive been reading a little bit on this forum and now im all stressed out thinking that I made a stupid decision. I always seem to either get ripped off or buy the wrong stuff.
Anyways, I was wondering why people keep saying that Sony Sucks?

Just poor quality in general... xplode really stands up to their name.
I had an xplode amp years ago and it died TWICE on me in the first year

Adam, heres a couple things bro.
The following is an exerpt from a post I made. If it sounds like I'm defensive, its because I was replying to a post where someone said Sony is now way better than Alpine and attacked Alpine. I'm normally not such a ****, however, the idea here is the same.
Dude, with all due respect, the only reason Sony decks are so asthetically pleasing is to cover up the ridiculous build quality. And the only reason they make it so easy to hook up a PS2 is to distract you from the shitty sound that is produced. If you are looking from a quality-first point of view on car audio, the last things we care about on head units are how cool they look and how much bonus crap we can hook up to them. I'm not saying we dont' like nice looking HUs and cool features, but we first make sure the sound and build quality is there. How cool looking is a Nak HU? They are designed for sound, not to make you pop a woody because you can play video on it. Personally, I'd rather love my Alpine for its quality for many years to come, than enjoy playing video games on your Sony for the year or so it lasts . . .
Look, if you are stuck with the Sony, then make the best out of it. It may even be good for you depending on what you are doing with it.
Second, the real important thing here is that you learn. You said you always seem to buy **** and regret it or get ripped off, well I can tell why that happens, in fact, you said yourself.
"Hey, I just bought a sony yesterday, CDX-F7705x, but ive been reading a little bit on this forum and now . . . "
you bought yesterday, and researched today? Sounds ***-backward to me bro. Take from this a learning experience - any time you are going to make a significant purchase, take your time and do a lot of research. One of the best things that's come out of this whole internet thing (next to miltfhunter.com of course) is the ability to make way more educated consumer decisions. Don't buy something then look for info only to find out it sucks, consider something, dig your dirt and move on to something else. Don't base your decision 100% on everyone else, but if 10 people say their sony hus didn't last 3 months, you might wanna look at Alpine. Anyway, live and learn, stick around here - we'll help you with any decisions you miight have to make.

awww bummer!!
I was going to put a Sony deck in my coupe...
are they really that bad?
The reason I chose the Sony is because of the
7 -band EQ (I want CONTROL of my tone)
MP3 Capability
Subwoofer outs
That's the criteria. That, and I work at best buy, so I getta
hecka discount. Is there anything else I could get that
has a nice EQ, MP3, sub outs and Best Buy sells?
Any reccomendation?
thanks

well put J187
If you want some more facts, you can say the same about anything with AUDIOBAHN written on it.
As a counterexample, look at the Clarion DRZ9255. Simple, elegant, subtle and one of the best SQ decks out. Eclipse is a good example of that as well.

I got the Pioneer Premier DEH-p860MP, but the Pioneer (non-premier) version is DEH-p8600MP, and is pretty much the same except it has 4V preouts instead of 6.5V, and there's a few other differences, but it's like $100 cheaper or something.
You can get them for a lot cheaper on eBay or online. Circuit City wants $500 for the Pioneer one.
It also plays .mp3s and has a subwoofer out.
Circuit City has better selection than Best Buy by far. How much discount do you get? I bet eBay might be cheaper than your Best Buy discount.

7 bands is hardly control and you are throwing SQ out the window anyway but getting a Sony so one negates the other and you are back at zero.

I really like the sony brand, but when it comes to car audio, sony's let me down. I only speak from my experience, but my first HU was a sony, played alright, a few months later, it started skipping a lot.. then eventually stopped playing every once in a while. I have a pioneer now, been working great.
Well im in the minority i have sony front to back and my last system was sony also and i have never had a problem with them. i also by no means have a huge system because i would rather put my money into handeling and and someday a turbo. my system will never win any DB or SQ contests but its loud enough and sounds good enough for what i use it for.
Dunno just my 2 cents

Adam, call them and ask them to accept the product as a return, tell them that you've decided to buy a different brand but You'll buy it from them. They might be cool with it.
whoa.. I guess my story is the only positive sony audio one..
I have the:
Sony Xplod XAV-7W Indash TV
Sony DVX-100 DVD Changer..
Sony Xplod 4 channel amp..
NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER...
I have owned the dvd changer for two years.. the indash for about 1 year and the amp like 5 months or so...

Now, in my opinion, it all depends on what you want out of your head unit. Me, I am not looking for serious competition sound. Just something better than stock. I definitley would not buy their subs or amps, but I really like the head units. If I have a problem with mine, I'll let you know.
Also, where did you get yours and how much did you pay? If you don't mind me asking. If you can take it back, take a look at this

Well, it costs me 200 for the cd player plus 40 for the install, plus 25 dollars because I have keyless entry
plus 12 plus 12 for the kit and hanging stuff. In total with taxes it came out to 317.00
I was going to buy it from ebay for 150+25 s/h+12+12+ 25 for install(keyless entry) + install from wherever probably around 30-45 bucks. Hm...
269. I guess I should have bought it from ebay and saved myself some 20 bucks!
I want to brandsmart, where I got my cd player from, today and I asked if I could return it. They said that I could anytime within 30 days so Im going to keep it for 10 or so days and see how it works out.

i have some $100 sony xplode thing that my ex got me for xmas lastyear.. its not that bad.. its a $100 cd player no doubt about that.. but ive never had any problems with it other than the fact that the remote censor is on the passangers side (who the hell designed that).. the sound quality is alright.. but i still have stock speakers (02 lx) which are far from great..
then again i also only listen to metal and hardcore.. which prettymuch sounds like **** no matter what you play it through..

I'm just playing. Sony serves some people just fine. The intention was not for everyone to gather on a bridge and toss your sonys in the water. It's just a heads up for guys that want slightly better models.
The comment about metal sounding like **** always, that was funny. I like some metal and hardcore so I know what your talking about. Some stuff is kinda metal but sounds ok too though, like Brawlpark and E-Town concrete.

I thought keyless entry was not an issue in the 7th Gen Civics, only in 6th Gen and below. Brother, I think that they saw you coming and earned an extra $25. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty positive. Next time come here, search, then go get your stuff and install it yourself.
