ACT XTSS+Prolite Installed, need to break in under boost (?) + Review

Hey guys a day before my SF Turbo installation I got my clutch and flywheel installed. I went for the ACT HC5-XTSS Clutch kit (also known as the stage 2) and the much debated upon flywheel, the Prolite.

I am still breaking it in. The ACT people recommend a break in period of 200 to 300 miles of mild street driving. What I want to know is that does mild street driving means no boost at all or can I put my foot flat in the 3rd or 4th gear.

The problem is that since I just installed the SF Turbo kit I need to boost it a bit to see if everything is working fine. So this is what I did. First I drove for about 200 kms very carefully, didnt take it over 3000 rpm. Then I started taking it to 4000 rpm till 250 kms. After that I started boosting in the 3rd and 4th gear only. And last night when coming back home in the 4th gear I had my foot flat and touched 200km/h and then slowed down.

Apart from all that I have been very careful in the 1st and 2nd gear, no boost, no harsh driving.

I need to know how did other poeple handled the break in procedure with their clutches ???

You can put your foot in it. Just don't power shift and you'll be fine. 1st and 2nd gear is fine to floor it, but watch out for tire spin.

The way we break in our clutches is install it and go racing. =)

WTF....You better baby that shiet or it will not break in properly and start to slip later. I installed my clutch and messed it up not being patient for it to break in. COst me $$ to pull it out and unglaze it just to throw it back in. Baby it for at least 500miles of stop and go driving.

OMG!!! Please....I read all your posts and you seem like a know-it-all. I think we have had words before. AHTASHAM Ignore his post. Let him go by his own words and be "Johnny Knowledge". I think Guns agrees and I agree with him!

Your doing great with the break in Ahtasham! just avoid hard launches.....that will be evident with spinning tires.......drive normal and if that means staying outta boost then do that. Give it a good month to be safe and your should be set to go. In the mean time during that break-in period you may want to monitor, very closely, your fuel system, oil temp, oil pressure, oil level (I check mine daily),check for leaks daily and things of that nature to ensure the car is running fine and accepting the positive pressure! I have run into some fuel issues and if I was careless I may have blown the motor. However I keep a close eye on things and listen to the car as I drive! When I know it's running right, tuned, then I can cruise and rip around!!

The pressure plate does not increase clamping force as you "break it in." It'll hold if you floor it. Just don't bang the gears.

If you break it in your gonna have a clutch that works properly in the long run...plain and simple.

I got the same kit you have... and when breaking the damn thing is basically to and from work, grocery shopping... etc wait and take car of it first or you'll regret it later...

the good thing about breaking the clutch is, you'll get your left leg work out getting cramps yet? well, if you don't have rush hour traffic stop and go moving at 5-10mph for 3hrs then you will not have any problem...

but nice set of upgrade man, once you break them in, it's worth it!

The Clutch sure is hard. I thought it was getting soft with time but today when I drove my brother's car it seemed as if his clutch pedal was just hanging in the air with no cable. But I am getting used to it, and its nice in a way that it gives a whole new feel to the drive.

The light flywheel is also awesome. I dont know how it would behave in a drag race but for normal driving its excellent. The car feels so much lighter and I dont even have to shift down to make a turn. Overall I love the setup so far!

I have done about 500 kms now. Last night I gave it a lil boost in 2nd gear. All I had was tire spin (@ 5-6 psi). I hope it didnt mess anything up?
