subwoofer making popping sound

subwoofer making popping sound
one of my friends subs is making a popping sound. hes got 2 jl 10w3s in a ported box. he powers them with a jl 500 mono. he has the 4ohm subs. he says they are at 4 ohms to the mono amp cuz hes got them in series - parellel. only one pops and only at rather high volume. any idea what causes that
