Hey,
I'm posting this here and not in the group buy forums, because I want this to start as a local thing only. At least for now.
Me and Jer are trying to get a little group buy going for KVR crossdrilled rotors and carbon-metallic brake pads. I'm just posting this to see what kind of interest we can get. I can't say the exact pricing just yet, but I figure around $240 +/- for a pair w/pads, depending on the size of the rotor. Obviously, the more people the better the price. I am also mentioning this to a friend (hey Blair!) in the local Grand Prix club. Let me know if your seriously interested so we can start looking into it.
Just for your referrence, Dow Honda charges around $200 to turn your rotors and put new pads on.
Both Jer and I have these on the fronts of our cars, and they are pretty good. The wet braking performance is pretty impressive. I am going to get them for my rear brakes as well.

I know the the Grand prix clud gets there rotors cross drilled here in Ottawa but a performance shop called no Limits performance they have some good prices....
I on the other hand are going to put in my 2 cents here I like the LOOK or cross drilled rotors and the are all fine and dandy but if are driveing your car in the winter you should not get the rotors due to the that they will rust out and worp faster than a fat kid on a smartie cause when rotors are cross drilled the snow gets in the little holes and inside the rotor and they rust from the inside out and not to mention cracking.....
And that is my 2 cents on that

oooo... the prof just dissected that one... lol... i was thinking awhile ago of getting something like that put on my car... i tried to get a brembro conversion kit so i could get rid of the drums for rotors on the back... and they wanted $2g's... so i sad laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaater boys and girls... lol... would it look retarded if i only had cross drilled rotors and pads on the front???
get whatever works, most of your braking comes from your front brakes anyway, brembos might be over kill, i know baer makes an awesome brake kit for my car. Maybe they make one for yours as well. It was very well priced for what it was. 900$ for 2 pistion caliper with 13 inch rotors and SS lines and whole deal.

ive heard that cross drilled rotors wont affect performance very much...slotted rotors will make a difference, but you will go thru pads like a ****. Supposedly cross drilled allows for the gases created from braking to have somewhere to go therefore performace increases, but i dunno...im still a skeptic. Plese someone correct me if im wrong, but i remember hearing this from somewhere! Julian, would be a nice buy tho if u could get it organised....but im broke!

yea l... the heat dissipates into the holes, therefore cooling down the rotor much faster and for better breaking... lol... whoa where did that come from??? too much skool
I have the OEM version of weight reduction. DX

Landin I hear ya on the broke thing! Julian I'd honestly love to jump on that but I have ZERO moolah. I'm still on the SAME breaks from when I bought the car in '01 I went in for servicing, and they didn't mention the breaks at all. I asked the guys and they said I still had a while on them. I'm sure I will need new breaks come next fall though. If your going to be doing this again, lemme know!

My thoughts on the rusting issue;
I go through brakes like a ****. I changed mine at 50k, or a little over 2 years. Rust is not an issue on something that only stays on the car for a couple years.
I was also told recently a trick to making the brake rotors not rust on the edges. Use high temp paint around the edges. Next ones I get I'm going to try this for sure, around the outside edge and on the edges in the holes.
That said, I'm at 100k now, and my cross drilled are still in fairly good shape. I think I'm getting longer life out of them because they cool better (maybe??)
Anyway, The increase in braking performance is mostly about the venting of gas in the holes, and the better pads.

...children children children...
the thing is, the pads we use on civics don't create the gasses that we speak of.
my bike does. it's all in the organic matter of the pads. i read up huge on this when i was pimpin my sedan. crossed drilled aren't as important as slotted. slotted is where it's at.
and if you can, get williams solo 2 pads from toronto. they're the ish. ted's car now stops incredibly fast, and they're built for the kind of driving solo 2 requires (not so high temperatures as when you're on the track, which is equivalent to daily driving).
http://www.wpfri.com/products.htm
email the sales guy. tell him you heard about the pads at a solo 2 event in ottawa, and that you're interested in making a 'group buy' of some sort, and see what kind of deal he'll give you on pads.
for discs: get slotted...don't make me bitch slap yo ***!
