New speakers in kicks sound very harsh???
I had DLS MS5 components put in Q-Forms the other day - they sound extremely harsh, especially when I listen to rock or anything heavy. Sometimes I feel as if my ears are going to start to bleed. I've thought if some possible reasons - could it be the Q-Forms making it sound harsh or is it just the speakers? The speakers in there are 5.25 and a 1" tweeter (amped by a PG Xenon 100.2) - could it be a lack of midbass that's causing the harshness.
I keep thinking it's the q-forms as I had the stock speakers run from deck power for a week before I had the q-forms and components installed. The just sound extremely up in my ear and overloaded with harsh mids and highs. Everything just sounds very sharp and hard to listen to. The stock stuff in the door didn't sound harsh however.
I used the same EQ settings for my stock speakers as well as the components in the q-forms. I've tried tweaking the EQ to decrease the harshness however nothing gives. Maybe I'm not tweaking enough?
I barely want to listen to rock because it hurts my ears and doesn't sound good at all. I don't think its the q-forms as plenty of you guys have them and are extremely happy with them. I'm thinking it's most likely an EQ thing or a lack of midbass. I have it faded to the front just about all the way so the rears aren't putting much out as far as midbass since it sounds horrible.
Any suggestions???

Did you reasearch/listen to your speakers before you bought them? They could have harsh charecteristics. I've never listened to DLS, or heard anything about them so I don't know. You might try attenuating the tweeters in the crossover if it has that ability. Other than that, an actual EQ might help if the one in your HU isnt cutting it.

I was on vacation when I posted this originally - I got back and tweaked some more. I changed a lot on my EQ and harshness no more! I took some really bright stuff (Raveonettes, some classical, etc...) and tweaked from there. I had it up way too high. My ears are in heaven now! The tweeters actually sound great now - everything's crisp and it sounds great in the kicks! I'm going away again tomorrow so I can't play with the car for another week
I'm going to post some pictures of the entire install when I get back
Here's the set-up - Pictures in a week or so
Eclipse 5444 HU
DLS MS5 Component Speakers
Q-Form Kick Panels
Adire Audio Shiva
PG Xenon X400.1
PG Xenon X100.2

What I think is this:
To buy a Universal Q-form instead of Q-form made for Civic, then mount the Q-form vertical against the factory Civic kick panel.....
Researches suggest that human year is more sensitive in horizontal array....So I further conclude that by Q-form FOR Civic, which has the tweeters placed in HORIZONTAL array with the mid....I will suggest that this kind of placement does not give a very nice sound stage since human year will detect the sound from the tweeter out of range from the mid. You may not agree with me, but having the tweeter mounted vertical with the mid is the way to go.

Hey - I didn't know the thread was still active - anyway the speakers don't sound harsh at all anymore. I guess they didn't get throught the break-in period when I got originally posted. From some other peopl I heard the DLS stuff sounds pretty harsh before- break-in. Now that they're broken in everything sounds as smooth as can be! I'm looking into getting a mid-bass driver since these speakers lack mid-bass since they're only 5.25s.
