Well today i took my civic up to the dealership to fix the 2nd gear popping out problem and to have them work on the tranny cuz 3rd gear is grinding. The car is still under warranty. Well they fix the 2nd gear popping out problem with no problems. BUT now they are telling me that the 3rd gear problem may not be covered because i have lowered my car (Neuspeed Sport Springs) and that somehow can mess up transmissions
HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD AS SOMETHING AS RIDICULOUS AS THIS? Can anyone help me with how to tell the dealer that is bull **** or what i can say to them. They say when they open up the tranny later this week, if its the actual gear thats damaged that i'll have to pay for it, but if its some clip thing in the tranny, they will fix it. Does it sound like they are trying to take the easy way out? Can i contact neuspeed and have them back me up and say that their springs can't do that? Any help or input would be helpful.

i would just ask them to give you a WRITTEN PROOF of how the Neuspeed sport springs will damage a gear in your transmission. Then forward that paper to Neuspeed or talk to them. I'll never trust what dealer says, I always get them to put everything they said in written so I have proof. 'Cause sometimes they just bs you, and will not saying anything after you tell them to put it in writing.
Show them the Magnusson-Moss Act Law print-out.
Q. Does installing an aftermarket part, automatically void my vehicle factory warranty? A. NO, According to the Magnusson-Moss Act of 1975 (see below):
The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fradulent activity by new car dealers. Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's orginial warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warrany or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

First thing I would do is read up on the thread above. Second would be to let the dealer know that you know the law. Basicly the must PROVE that your springs contributed to or caused the problem. So unless you have so major damage to the tranny housing due to scraping from being lowered you should be fine.

Yea i emailed neuspeed and im waiting for a response. They did say that "ur car is modified" bs and im gonna go there and talk to them and let them know that im aware of all the laws involved. Has anyone heard of lowering a car hurting the transmission or does anyone have a service bulletin or anything about 3rd gear grinding?
Lowering the car will not hurt the transmission AT ALL! Unless you dropped it sooo much that the bottom of the car is scraping on the road. Second the only part of the warranty they should void is anything suspension wise because you installed lowering springs, NOT THE WARRANTY ON THE WHOLE CAR! They have to prove that those springs is what caused your transmission problems and like someone else said, get it in writing. There is just no way they can prove something so stupid like that. I dunno why dealers make a big deal about this when they get paid and fully reimburshed (sp) by Honda for warranty work.

Well now they are saying that the 3rd gear grind is from abusing the car.... I dunno how thats possible since I always keep it below redline or whatever. Can anyone help me out what to say on this issue?

again, i would just ask how was it abuse? i mean they can say you can abuse the car for any part of the car. they just gotta prove it and ask them to write it down and stuff.

Ask Honda for a written proof that lowering springs damaged the transmission. That would mean that the Honda Performance package with shorter springs would ALSO damage the transmission. Also, how can they "PROVE" you abused it? Driving a fat lady home in your car could be considered abuse.
Contact Honda of america in writing. Dealers will always try to blow you off.

hey unless you hit the tranmission/ engine with something because ur car was lowered they have no reason of why to deny your warranty. try taking it to another honda dealer and see what they say i have lowering springs on my car and in rick case fl they never have given me problems because of it i also have an intake no problems whatsoever.

Yup. That's the only way, but even scraping the tranny won't cause a problem with a single gear. That dealer is retarded. Try a different one, or go back and demand them to fix it. The only thing they can void is suspension warranty from the springs, obviously.
my third gear grinds too its a lovely little honda problem....its from high rpm shifting and synchros a little outta whack....but they cant tell its from abuse or anything else...believe me if you have ever rebuilt a tranny you know you cant tell what cause the problem just what the problem is

Well they fixed the 2nd gear problem by doing it the easy way ( the other way is to rebuild the tranny) and its been 1000 miles since that repair and it still pops out of gear. As for the 3rd gear problem, they offered to take apart the tranny, and see if its a synchro clip. If its the synchro clip they will replace it free of charge, but they said if its the actual gear with teeth worn or broken, it will be my bill for everything. I will have to pay for all that labor of tearing apart the tranny if its the gear but not the synchro clip. Can anyone tell me how this is fair. Im fed up with honda dealers...
That is complete BS. Consider that if the syncro clip is damaged, that will cause gear damage. So are they going to say "well we fixed the clip, but since the gear is damaged you have to pay for that." Stand your ground with the law behind you. The dealer obviously doesn't want to deal with it, especially considering they didn't fix the other problem properly.

Yeah i'm going to give them a call this weekend to tell them that the problem still occurs. Hopefully it all will work out. I will post on here later to tell everyone what happened.
thanks,i have to say with out this site what would we do,ok heres my short story.im on my 2nd transmission.remind you my car is stock beside rims 17s and 2 inch drop.they told me thye will not service it even though its still under warranty.so i asked to speak to a manager, well guess it just so happened a honda rep was there.i got everything in writing from thme.they took pictures of my car and wrote "car looks to be modifeid for racing".what the ****.listen to this, after the first trans i stored it for 1 year in my garage.so the trans only had 2,000 miles on it,so when i finally got it out my trans went out.so i will try to call go there and tell them about the 1975 congress act.what else should i do.i talked to a lawyer he said they will prolly blame it on your suspension or your rims
