Remote Start For 5 Speed??
okay, i have heard many stories. some people say that they have remote starts on their manual cars and some people say that it is impossible becasue you need to bypass the clutch. also, i have gone to every possible shop and i cannot get anyone to install it into my 5 speed EX. so what my question is, has anyone installed a remote start on their cars (manual trans.). if you have, can you please tell me how to do it cuz i want to put it in ASAP.

It's a liability thing, they won't do it because it's possibly illegal and definitely not a good idea
But sorry, I don't know how to do it

There is probably some wire that throws a 12v signal when you press the clutch which you will need to learn to manipulate in order to get the remote starter to work...
That is just a guess, but it's a place for you to start looking

i have a remote starter in my 5 speed manual car only difference is my car is completely legit. In order for my remote start to work i need to let my car know before i actually get out of the car. My alarm is the clifford G5 first i would have to park the car and obviously put the car in neutral then with my foot off of all pedals i would press clifford+clifford +**(these are buttons on my remote for the alarm) the car then has the corner lights on and all my gauge lights on i can then take the key out of the ignition the car is still gonna be on. then u would exit the car and activate the alarm the alarm is now on and the car shuts down. the only way you can leave your car in gear and start the car is if someone is in the car when you activate the alarm so that they can put it in gear, and thats how my remote start works its pretty simple just that you have to take an extra step in turnin the remote starter on. by they way anytime my alarm goes off for any reason the remote start feature is disabled till i go through the same setup

yeah, i heard about something like that, but how much did that cost you. cuz i have an old remote start w/ no alarm, it just has the remote start feature and lock/unlock feature. do i need anything else to work it.
well if you look at my cars pics the place that helped me throw together also did my alarm and remote start they charge me 600 for the alarm and starter i know its expensive but the alarm really proves its worth with all of its features

i just got the prestige aps 996a. it is capable of remote start on manual cars LEGALLY. would have cost me $500 installed for it though (it has a pager) i got it $150 less w/out remote start (and $50 less because of my dad employing the owners gf
)
) My friend has remote start in his prelude... He was explaining how it works with the 5-speed but I wasn't paying attention as he likes to ramble on about how awesome his car is non-stop. I know he physically gets out of the car (while it's still running) and locks the doors and the engine shuts off (maybe he pushes a button?). He was explaining the problem with that and the procedure you need to go through to be able to use it... Sorry I wasn't paying attention lol

its a liability issue because they are authorized dealer so if you do park your car in gear and hit the remote start they are fully responsible. i tried signing wavers and stuff before and it just resulted in installing my self.

oh so the steps on how to do it....basically all of your wires are the same. your pink, purple, black, white, white/red, pink/white.....whatever...well they all go to the same place wether is be the ac or the ignition.... the only things different are......
1. there is a grey wire that goes to a neutral wire when you are in park. you have to ground this wire in order for the remote start to think you are in park.
2. immobilizer bypass.... very easy to install
3. the easiest part. the car will not start if the clutch is not engaged. so there is like a button behind the clutch pedal that tells the car if the clutch is down or not. in order to bypass this all you have to do is unclip it and plug the two wires together. what i did was put to a switch so i can tell the car manually wether the clutch is engaged or not.
thats it and you will have remote start in your manual

I'm looking at getting one for my wife for our anniversary. There is only one place in town that will do them I was quoted $340 for a basic one-way (1500 feet) or $500 for a two-way 1/4 mile. I just assumed it wouldn't work if the car was in gear, not sure how that would work I though
Anybody think that price is too high? I love my wife but I'm not sure if she could remember to never leave the car in gear, maybe I'll hold off.

I installed my Clifford rsx 3.5 on my 5 speed. I used a magnetic reed switch that I mounted to the side of my revo short shifter, and the shifter itself. I used the neutral safety wire, but also put a switch on it so if I take it to a shop they won't be able to start it. I also figured out a way to use a three way switch to bypass the clutch so you can shut the clutch bypass off.
